True or False?

I'll take my answer off the air.

Government payor sources and over utilization.

My father in law had some serious stuff go down the other night and I ended up being at the ER for 5 or 6 hours. I probably saw 15 or 20 people come in for care and not a damn one of them had any business at the ER: Kids with sniffles, people strolling in for back pain, etc. Literally not one person that came in the doors needed to be there and it's like that at every ER, every day at every hospital.

Some truth. Mostly false. i'd go with government involvement in the paying of medical bills without them really having any bargaining power on the price of the services and drugs they're paying for as the main reason.

True if you mean we are wanting things that weren't available 50 years ago. But then you'd have a hard time using income inequality as driver for changes when people are many time better off today than they were 50 years ago by any meaningful measure of way of life.

False. Your question reeks of economic illiteracy.

My dad with two new hips and my mom who had a pacemaker put in on local and outpatient terms says it's much better.

Main reason cost more is same reason education cost more.

What is the main reason education cost more than it did 50 years ago? Is it better? Are we smarter?

There are way too many market variables to think one answer could suffice.

partly true

i bet if you looked at the # of people (per capita) using the ER as a PHCP, that explosion would account for the biggest chunk

being better is part of it

treating old people via "endless" government spending is a part of it, too

over-insurance (via private industry but born due to government incentive) means more people will use more medical care. that's part of it, too (i'd put this at #2 behind the ER/they're related)

if this primes is true, then putting price caps/limits in place will make it worse.....

take away the incentive for newer and better products to hit the marked is that the companies pioneering the new medical procedure/medicine stand to gain for the endeavor. (Ie. risk/reward)

You are trying to take one of the most complicated economic issues and simplify it way too much. I don't know if you are trying to have one of your gotcha moments but if you are I don't think this will end well for you.

Why is it that when people (well, Democrats) talk about lowering health care costs, this is never discussed? the legal system, or rather, the abuse of the legal system is a huge contributing factor to MANY problems we have in this country, both culturally and economically.

In terms of money and influence, Trial Lawyers may be the most powerful lobby in the Democrat Party. That's why.

Insurance is one reason.
Expensive testing.
Defensive medicine.
Controlling the supply of physicians via limited Med Schools is another.

I'm sure there are many more.
