So I was looking for a soundbar for a room with an unusual shape that really won't be ideal for a traditional speaker setup, and i'm too damn lazy to install ceiling speakers.

I went to Best Buy today and listened to the Sonos soundbar and WTF does it sound good. I wasn't planning on spending $1,400 but nothing I've listened to yet has even come close to comparing. Someone steer me away please.

Yeah I would buy the soundbar and sub for now and the Play 5's next month. I've already bought too much tech this month.

Beyond the Play 5's, I don't think I have room for anything else. It sucks but the way the room is situated, there's no way around it.

Can't talk you out of it. I have a few of their products and love them. It's a slippery slope, once you start connecting rooms and making zones

Check Amazon, may have cheaper prices or refurb stuff when you can save a little cash. I just checked and there is a warehouse deal for sound bar for $650 right now and the sub for under $550. Prime shipping.

I have 2 of the soundbars with subs...I haven't heard another soundbar setup that sounded as good. Yes they are expensive...but that sub sounds fantastic...add in all the music service stuff and it's an amazing package IMO.

Link?

Best Buy will price match so that would be awesome. I looked a good bit last night and just can't find anything better. I'm open to soundbar suggestions though.

Agreed! And the playbar is pretty nice...well constructed...looks badass...and the sub really shocked me how good it sounded. In my master bedroom im hooking it to a connect amp for some rear surrounds I mounted in the ceiling for a little 5.1 action.

The only disadvantage is it only has one opticle input. That would be a non issue IF ALL TVs sent Dolby Digital out of there opticle output. They do not...and there is a sound difference and forget 5.1 is you set it up like that. A work around is before the HDMI goes into the TV you get a box that takes the digital sound out and then you send that to the playbar and then HDMI out to the TV.

Search it on amazon and look at the new/used/refurbished link on the page. You'll see it under more buying choices.

I think best buy will only price match on brand new items. Still, you could sign up for Amazon Prime for a year with the money you'll save. You'll get free two day shipping and can stream all kinds of movies and shows with that new sound setup.

Well shite I didn't know this. This is kind of a problem, I mean the whole reason to buy the soundbar is to take advantage of the best sound possible.

Yep I don't know why all tvs won't send out DD from there optical out bit not all do. It's a easy fix you just have to get another box. How is the tv hooked up and what do you typically watch on it...just cable or will you have a few different set top boxs? Run anything through a receiver?

Also look up your tv you may luck out and have one that passes dd thought it's output.

Before you buy the box, look into the type of TV you have. It may automatically do it. I know my Sony LED supports DD output (even though I don't use sonos to run my home theater)

Edit: ^^^^^^^^he said it better.

Considering a Sonos playbar and did a quick search and saw this post so figured I'd throw a couple of questions your way.

I have a Panasonic TV, this is what it says in the users manual.

quote:

1. When an ATSC channel is selected, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack will be Dolby Digital. When channel is selected, output will be PCM.

2. When playing a movie on Movie player, when sound has been recorded in Dolby Digital, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal will be Dolby Digital. When the sound is recorded in other formats, the output will be PCM

I will be watching TV with a DirecTV cable box and playing BluRays and using Netlix/Amazon Prime on my XBOX ONE, here is the Audio Settings page for the XBOX ONE.

Will I be able to get true 5.1 surround? It seems like most blurays are recorded in DTS, is that compatible with the XBOX?

Sonos sound bar beneath the TV. Sounds Great! Two individual speakers (on in Kitchen and Office) sound wonderful. For music all through the house, you can link them all together with the Sonos app.

Very happy with mine, if you couldn't tell.

My only complaint is that you can't airplay. I use some services like Soundcloud that I can't play on my Sonos (unless you do the airport express work around). Also, I prefer the native Spotify app, but at least Sonos app has Spotify abilities. It is clunky, but you can use the service.

As for the sound and configuration flexibility, they are amazing.
