During teal season we had teal come into our dekes but never even once had teal swing by the decoys and have to circle back around. They were either locked in and came straight into the dekes or didn't give a damn about us at all. Is this a teal-only trait or did we just have a weird couple of hunts?

They will definitely work decoys. They sometimes make big circles and land from a different direction than into the wind.

I've seen them work, but 9 times out of 10 they just buzz your arse.

Most Ive seen buzz.....buzz again and either move on or divebomb kamikaze style straight into the decoys.

Its not the graceful greenhead, brakes on, stomach showing though, just a direct hit.

Its funny because we had quite a few decoys out last year on my farm, with about 6 teal decoys in a pile. A few groups of teal came in and picked their decoys out and sat right on top of them.

Summers are the only birds that I've consistently seen to not work decoys, like the frickers just know they aren't real.

teal sometimes work decoys, but it is not like other ducks...the circles are so wide, that it looks like they just went away and decided to come back a couple of times...might be 4 or 5 minutes between passes...

Apparently I've been hunting different teal. Ours almost always decoy just like any other birds

This and depends on how much pressure is on them. Last year was a great season with me limiting out in the first half hour of hunting. After that, I would just stay to work the birds. Had a blast just doing that. This year, no birds and only made two hunts.

Teal decoy like a sumbitch. They don't fly like other ducks, obviously. But all puddlers work differently.

They've decoyed everytime I've hunted them. Except this year because I didn't even see a teal duck.

My experience has been that Teal do whatever they want. I've seen them be shy and skittish, I've seen them decoy like other birds and I've had them come land in flocks when we were standing up in the blind.

In my experience there is no rhyme or reason behind what they do and they are all different.

I do believe that they love a mojo. I hunt over 3 mojos and have seen teal lock in on them from a long ways off and come straight to them.

Only time I've seen teal "work decoys" is in big groups, and even then if you get 3 circles back, its a lot. Small groups are a one pass and turn back at most. Two or 3 birds or gonna dive in and land or just keep going.

We had a lone retarded blue-wing come in straight to a mojo and knock himself out on the pole. Didnt even have to shoot, just walked out and rung his neck.

Obviously, Im joking.
