Did they scratch Gonchar? Or did I just read lineup wrong?

I think you read it wrong.

He is in tonight's stats with 1 shot on goal.

Not to steal your thunder but congrats to the maple leafs with their first win in anyone's memory. 5-2 no less! That makes the previous two games a combined score of 11-7.

Frick the Leafs

It was a matter of time before their first line got going. I really like Kessel and as much as I hate him, Phaneuf is one of the better Dmen in the league.

That's about the only nice thing I can say about the Leafs

Caps get a big road win on a pretty ridiculous Ovi goal. He went end to end, took a shot off the end boards and then pushed his own rebound to the opposite post. One man force of nature kinda goal.

Very typical Caps game. Dominated possession, took a lead, blew a one-goal lead (twice!), someone played horrible defense to allow an easy goal (Green, this time) and then needed the heroics of one their star players to bail them out.

ETA: Found a gif of the goal. Backstrom's tap in was after the lamp was lit. Ovi scored himself.

Wow does he get a G and 2A's on that one?

Preds lost last night. Hutton is hot garbage with 3 goals on 19 shots. Time to bring up Magnus Hellberg from the Admirals.

So looking at the last couple of weeks - is the East actually stronger than the West this year?

I think the top of the West is far stronger than the top of the East. But I think the East is far deeper and has about 11-12 legit playoff teams (which obviously can't happen).

The big thing is the Western powers have all struggled out of the gate (which has gotten to be de rigeur for the Kings and Hawks) while some bottom feeders are having surprising starts. Things will shake out eventually. The East, OTOH, already looks fundamentally like the standings will look in February (most likely).

Man, Islanders and Pittsburgh on back to back nights this weekend.

Hoping C-Bus can defeat the Bruins now that they are getting healthier. Marchand is out. Strained labia.

NHL Coaches Hotseat

How in the hell are the coaches of the Sharks, Flyers, Blue Jackets, and Senators on the hot seat? All have had good seasons in the last 3 years. Christ almighty this guy belongs on the Tiger Rant .

Stars making moves today

Locked up Spezza for four years this morning. Then traded Brenden Dillon to SJ for Jason Demers and a 3rd rounder.

Excited about Spezza, pretty undecided on the Dillon trade. Like that we finally have another RHD, besides the blossoming Klingberg, to add to the blue line though. Either way, Jim Nill is my fearless leader so here we go.

Both Dillon and Demers have been fairly underwhelming so far this season, so I'm hoping this turns into a change of scenery type trade.

Dallas needed another RHD badly and Dillon was the odd LHD out with the emergence of Nameth and the development of Oleksiak, plus he was going to be costly as an RFA. Demers had a pretty good year last year, hopefully this trade will wake him up.

And the Stars love mid to late round pick.

Jackets/Bruins headed to OT. Bruins had a 3 goal 3rd that all started with Bob giving up a 78 footer.
