SEC will be the first to ask for an 8 team playoff format because the 4 team format does not benefit the SEC. The committee is going to be extremely biased towards picking conference champs, and while they will have a hard time passing up a #1 or #2 team for not winning its conference - I think the same won't apply to 3 or 4.

In other words, an SEC team that is not the conference champion will have to clinch at least #2 to get in, like Bammer in 11. So the SEC has no greater advantage with a 4 team playoff than with 2.

An 8 team playoff, however, would almost guarantee 2 SEC schools or more, and it would be quite typical for division co-champs that did not get into the CCG to clinch a playoff berth.

I think the best format is a 16 team playoff where each conference champ gets an spot.

Only fair way since there is no definitive way to say who the best teams are. I do believe eventually it will expand to 16 (won't be for a while though)

It should of been an 8 team playoff format from the get go.

Big 5 conference Champions + Wild cards

You can still keep the BCS class bowls for the initial playoff games and have the Peach\Cotten bowls for the semi-finals.

That was the best format for the FCS. Nobody ever bitched about who should of been champion in the FCS community.

Which is why we should have never adopted the playoff format in the first place. This is going to solve nothing. If anything it's going to generate even more controversy.

It needs to be 8 teams with no auto-bids.

Opening rounds on NYE and NYD at Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, and ORange
Semifinals the next saturday @ Cotton and Peach
CCG on the saturday of MLK weekend at highest bidder

I think most the country wants an 8 team format. You have 100 plus teams many in the top ten who have an argument to play in a playoff. With four not even every big conference can be represented in the playoff. Adding one more week of football would even the field out more. The legit schools would get shots and be able to prove it on the field.

Whether a two-team or four-team format, a team that did not win its conference championship playing in the title series is a joke. If a team doesn't have a legit claim to its conference title, other conference champions need to be given a shot at the national title. This at least reduces the amount of regional bias and lets the teams sort it out on the field.

I like the 4 playoff system ,but maybe just allow the BCS pick them & not some committee.

If you allow 16 teams in the playoffs the regular season loses value. Each week in college Football is extremely intense & meaningful because if you lose your playoff hopes may be over.

Lose all non conference games? Who cares because if you win your conference you make the playoffs in a 16 team scenario.

4 teams is okay & the College season stays short /sweet/intense.

The SEC is gonna be really pissed when our conference champion has 2 or 3 losses and zero SEC teams make the playoff year 1.

That PAC-12 is more likely to miss the 1st playoffs the the SEC due to cannibalism. The only thing that could keep the SEC out is if the SEC east does something stupid and lose to GaTech and Clemson but wins the SEC Champion game.
