Honestly it doesn't look to bad. I am going to try it out on an old used record first. If it sounds too bad i will go get it replaced here in Shreveport.

After sitting up for years, the suspensions in all cartridges will go bad. That refers to the "springlike" action of the cantilever (which is the thin tube that the diamond stylus is mounted to). This springlike action allows the stylus to properly track in the groove--much like a shock absorber does for a tire on the road.

The minuscule rubber dampers where the cantilever meet the cartridge motor (the magnet and coil assembly) will also probably suffer from dry rot.

The cartridge may work, per se, but it won't perform like it did back in the day.

Enjoy your new 'table!

Just gave you an accidental down vote agent, swung and missed on an up vote for your new table. How does it sound?

Got some new old speakers over here, wife found me some JBL L100s I had been after.

Enjoying a new Bob Marley Exodus spin right now.

Here's to the vinyl Christmas!!

Never mind, looks like the upright does correct

Man, I was able to just put together the (small) amount of things required to get it running and snap a picture before we had to rush out the door for more christmas events.

I'll report back once I get everything situated.

Maybe you can help me out, Shark.

I have that JVC receiver and I plugged the RCA cables that came with the orbit into the Phono port on the back. However, I have Swan M10 speakers I used to use for my computer that I'm trying to use for now until I can upgrade.

I plugged everything in and all I hear is music literally coming out of the Orbit (I'm assuming it's the grooves making the noise) and nothing out of the speakers. The M10s are 2.1 and the speakers plug into the subwoofer for power. Do you know what's up with this?

Hey man. Are your speakers plugged into your subwoofer for power? Where are the speaker cables plugged into? Are they plugged into your receiver?

The speakers each have their own cables that plug into the subwoofer for power. The subwoofer then has an output cable (which is RCA on one side and headphone jack on the other) but I plan on getting an RCA to RCA cable tomorrow.

I just don't see that helping much and don't really know where to plug the speakers in on the receiver; there's a lot of inputs and the ones labeled "speakers" are the old style with the frayed copper wire connections.

I would buy some new speaker wire tomorrow and plug your speakers directly into the receiver. That's what I did with mine. I think that will help. Try that and let me know if it is still not working.

I got it working but I think I need a preamp. I plugged my Orbit directly into my Swan M10's and hear it coming out of the speakers now but it's super low

That could be the case. Just FYI the preamp I use with my orbit works very very well.

I picked up the one they recommend on the UTurn website.

I have the one you have bookmarked but don't have the funds for that just now.

I am sure that one will be legit too. Did you order it off the website or find it in a store?

Was sold out on UTurn so I did one day delivery off Amazon.

It said it was the last one on there so either I got lucky or they're lying.
