Neutral as in "flat frequency response throughout the entire audioband"--which is the holy grail that all audiophiles try to attain.
Some systems may be better at delivering better depth or air or sound stage size, but do so at the expense of augmented bass/mid/high response--this distorting the perfectly flat frequency response throughout the entire audible band.
Neutral response is just that--it is not adding anything to the low end or high end. It is close to the signal it is trying to reproduce.

Thanks, that is all very helpful. I am looking at the following right now:
Beyerdynamic
Grado PS500e
Sennheiser HD 650
Still looking around as well and trying to find a place in Dallas to try some out.

Vinyl doesn't really sound crappy enough for me so I rock one of these:

Audio Concepts in Dallas (Highland Park) has a headphone room--lots of cans and amps for cans. I was there during Thanksgiving.

Interestingly, Steve Jobs, the man likely most responsible for the perpetuation of compressed file music, never listened to any digital media according to various interviews. He was strictly a vinyl listener d/t his opinion that it gave a superior listening experience.

I am leaning towards the Grado's, but I was wondering, would I need to get a special headphone amp to use if I am going to be listening to vinyl at home? The headphone listening is something to which I am very inexperienced.

If your receiver/Pre amp has a 1/4" headphone jack, you are good to go. If not, you will need to use a separate headphone amp. It connects using the "line out" from the Pre amp to the "line in" on the headphone amp.
There are also 2 types of headphones--low output and high output. Usually low output phones are the likes of planars or electro stats (Stax for example), and usually are $1000+. They are rated at 600ohm. If you plan on really getting into phones, you may want to consider this when looking for a headphone amp.
If not, a regular amp for high output phones will work.
Check out Schitt--funny name, but great stuff.

The Grado phones are really good, but do yourself a favor and listen to the Tesla from Beyerdynamic.

So since I posted that I have been looking at others, particularly the Hifiman HE-500s which are planar magnetic headphones. So my preamp does not have a headphone jack, but my receiver does, so do I need to do anything extra with that? I think I might be good, It has the jack right on the front, but just wanted to make sure it doesnt have to come from my preamp. Thanks again,

You should be good.
The spec sheet for your receiver should tell what the power output for the headphones is and what resistance (ohms) it can drive. Being planars-the HiFiMan--you may want to make sure that the phone jack has the power to drive them.

If you want, give me the model of your receiver and I will look it up.

That would be great. I have a Yamaha R-S500BL Receiver.

Found the spec sheet and looking over it now.
I think I found it. It says PHONES, 410 mV/470 Ohms

You should be good with the hifiman phones.

Amazon has them for a great price. About 500. They used to be upwards of 8 or 900 evidently. Newer company it seems, but so is U Turn, so I figured it is worth a try and they have gotten great reviews. Might sleep on it then pull the trigger

Hey Marco I have a quick question for you.
I have a vintage table and I am thinking about upgrading the cartridge. It is a Yamaha yp-701 manufactured around the mid 70s. I went on audiokarma looking for tips but that was a little overwhelming. Can you recommend a source or any method for determining what cart would be a good match for my table?

Let me research...there are a few.

What kind of arm is on the table? Can you describe it or take a pic?
