Just some basic stuff on amazon and a few other sites. I don't know what's good and what's not.

Here's a couple things I've looked at LINK LINK

It would be directly on the back in plain sight and be labeled Phono so if you don't see it pretty immediately it likely doesn't have one, in that situation you would need a phono pre amp, otherwise the sound will be hardly audible at normal volume. As far as old turntables go, it depends, you may be able to hook up regular rca cables to an old one but its best to check before you buy it

I don't know anything about that techplay, but the uturn orbit is what I have and it's my first turntable. I have nothing but great things to say about it and for the price it can't be beat IMO. Highly recommend

The only thing that concerns me is getting speakers and amps and receivers to go with the orbit.

How does the Orbit compare to other tables around the $200 price range?

It is much, much better. The Orbit is typically compared to turntables in the 300 to 500 dollar range such as the Pro-ject Debut Carbon, Music Hall MMF 2.2. It is much cheaper and a fantastic intro table.

If you have a receiver with a phono input, then all you need is the turntable, receiver, and speakers. However, if your receiver does not have a phono input, you will need what is called a phono preamp. The purpose of the phono preamp is back when records were the primary listening method, receivers all had a built in phono pre amp. These days, it is less common to have a turntable as a primary method of listening, so less receivers have the PHONO input, thus, a phono preamp is necessary. Instead, you hook the turntable into the preamp and THEN into the receiver. Here is a pretty simple diagram.

I received my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon yesterday and set it up tonight. It was pretty easy to get up and running. The wife and I had a good time listening to my old 45s. I'm looking forward to making my first LP purchase.

fun man, it will renew your interest in music for sure, also most LP's these days come with a free digital download. I usually send those to friends when I'm trying to get them to try a new artist

They should just start including a free 10-day code to Spotify in LPs.

I'm sure I could rack up a free year of Spotify if they did that.

Spotify is free if you want it to be. I pay for premium to avoid ads. 10 bucks a month not bad

I visited Josey Records this weekend. It's a cool place with great potential but I hate the way it's organized. Hard to find albums. It is conducive to browsing for hours tho. They sell lots of great beginner turntables in there like music hall and Pro-ject. Overall a cool shop.

Big breakthrough for me today. The old BIC turntable that belonged to my late uncle is fixed (see page 2 for pics). I spent hours on it today. I have a huge feeling of accomplishment right now. I had to take it apart and everything. The old lubricant had hardened and essentially glued the platter in place. Had to clean out the old lubricant with WD 40 and put new gear lube on there. It took a lot of patience because I was literally waiting on a chemical reaction to take place. Took hours. It is spinning now and tomorrow I'm gonna hook it up and see how she sounds.

On my way home with my deluxe Led Zeppelin remasters right now. I can't wait to give LZ III a spin.

Honestly it doesn't look to bad. I am going to try it out on an old used record first. If it sounds too bad i will go get it replaced here in Shreveport.
