I like to put it on a rack in the oven first and then pan sear it, but sounds good

I'm a vegan and I've never heard of cooking a steak in the oven.

I put my cast iron in the oven and then transfer it to the stove on high. Sear each side for 30 to 60 seconds and then finish it in the oven.

Small dab of garlic butter on top 3 minutes before you take it out.

My mom used to straight broil steaks in the oven. No pan sear. Absolutely great. I did it recently with some sirloins and loved it. And didn't smoke up the house.

Why put the pan in the oven first? Why not just put it directly on the stove on high then to the oven after searing?

Honest question. Seems a little redundant to me.

I think the though process is that if the oven is going to be on already, no sense in turning the stove on as well- you can put the empty skillet in the oven to preheat and not have 2 heat sources going at the same time

I see. Makes sense in that respect I guess.

Well, 450 isn't hot enough and i left it in too long. I seared each side on a preheated skillet, after a minute on each side there was very little sear. Oven for ten minutes made it well done.

Still tasted fine.

Seriously, you should have done the reverse seer.

Skillet wasn't hot enough for the quick sear or you had a wet steak or used oil or some other fat. Did you use a cast iron skillet?

Cooked way too long in the oven.
