I was bout to hop in my car and head to work this morning. noticed something that's normally in the map pocket on the ground outside of my car by my door getting rained on, and thought "huh, that's weird".

Opened the door and noticed by sun visors were all folded down, my glove box and center console were wide open, and the contents strewn around my car. Someone came into my driveway overnight and jimmied my driver door and went through my car...

Don't know for sure if anything was missing yet, I don't believe I had anything of particular value in there, but now I'm more worried about any mail or paperwork I may have had in there that they could try to use for identity theft. I haven't climbed in yet, because I called the local PD and they're going to check for prints when it stops raining . Cop already came out and took some notes and gave me a case number. Guess they're bored. But if they're down, so am I

I feel so violated guys!!!

CSB, I know. Any of you guys had something like this turn into an arrest? Like I said, I'm shocked they want to even follow up with this, but that'd be awesome to nail someone with it

Unless there was blood, then I would have little confidence in them catching someone with fingerprints.

That's a lot of for a car break-in story.

Same thing happened to me about 3 months ago, but they didn't get anything. They did do 1000 dollars worth of damage to my door and handle, though.

I always worry about the ID theft stuff too, but to be honest, most thieves are too dumb to make use of things. We had a business computer stolen last year with some sensitive stuff on it, and going through police and our insurance carrier, people kept telling us that it's extremely rare for your normal thug criminal to make any attempt to do something with your mail or papers or computer data.

Happened to me once when I forgot to lock my door. They didn't take anything. I didn't call the cops.

Most of the time these are crimes of opportunity when they find a car with unlocked doors. Odd for then go actually break in and not take something.

And here we go. LSU/Auburn week and every poor Auburn fan is being mistreated.

Did anyone push your grandmother off the upper deck yet in her wheel chair?

Did the offenders throw piss balloons inside your car?

Lolz at the cops checking for prints. Dude could have broken in with peanut butter on his hands, and they won't find anything.

I've had two cars broken into, one in baton rouge, and both times they ended up catching the person.

That doesnt mean they shouldnt get their hand chopped off. No jail time needed.

They only run DNA (at least in Houston) when the theft is over 5k. Anything less, they laugh at you while eating a donut.

Identity theft? I got news for you. Master hackers may very well be breaking into your computer while you post on TD but they ARENT out breaking into cars looking for discarded mail.

Arrests are only made if he's caught in the act.

I applaud your ability to laugh this off. Never made me laugh when it happened to me.
