As I pull into my driveway today I see a decent sized mammal run into the woods and I can't for the life of me figure out what it was.
I live in Nashville city limits, but surrounded by about 50 yards of wooded area on 3 sides of the house.
This thing was probably 20+ lbs. Like a big arse racoon sized or standard adult beaver. It had the body shape, size, and color (brown) of a beaver or large muskrat, but the tail was short and kind of bushy and black. It was clearly dry and fluffy looking.
Everything about it screamed beaver except the tail, but I live no where near a body of water. It would have to cross a 5 lanes of road and travel a few miles to get to one.
Like this, but with a short, kind of bushy black tail:

I live near you in Franklin. Plenty of prairie dogs/ground hogs. I've seen some pretty big ones.

An obese woodchuck or groundhog?

Thank you! Are they gonna give my dog rabies? Cause he'll sniff that shite.

Chupacabra. Definitely a Chupacabra. Nashville is overrun with them.

Probably a groundhog. I hadn't seen one before until a month ago in NW Arkansas. My physical description of it would be very similar to yours.

You just described my dick exactly.

Maybe it was a whistle-pig.
