Anyone heard of this traffic law?

TLDR; Got in an auto accident with a U.S. Postal Service vehicle. Turned out to be my fault after the actual driver thought it was his.
I was in my neighborhood and was about to turn right onto my street as I see a post man parked at the last mailbox before the intersection that I was turning on. I go around him and turn onto my street and he clips the back of my truck. I get out and the driver admits fault and said he started driving forward and hit me. When the cop arrives the driver states the exact thing to him.
After the cop gets our info he then comes over to me and explains that unfortunately in this situation I am at fault because he has the right-of-way. He goes on to tell me that he doesn't agree with the law, and even though that he admitted fault, his vehicle is in the travel lane and even if not moving he has the right-of-way. He also told me that because he doesn't agree with the law he wasn't going to write me a ticket. Not much damage, but I found it very strange that it was still my fault.

Never heard of it, but at least justice was served the way it should be today.
+1 for cops

So if someone parks their car in the lane, you can't go around them?

Yea, sounds like a stupid law, but the cop was cool about it.

I think it might just be postal service vehicles. Because the officer said that he hates having to deal with wrecks involving USPS drivers because this is always the case. Am I supposed to sit behind him the whole time and follow his route?

Yeah I knew this because of a dumb riddle I heard as a kid
Something like 4 vehicles come to a 4-way stop, fire truck sirens blaring en route to a Fire, police cruiser lights on em route to a call, ambulance patient inside en route to the hospital, and a postal truck on his normal delivery route. Who goes through first?
Legally the postal truck would have the right away,
Something like that

I actually came across that riddle trying to research this law, but he wasn't at a 4-way stop. He was literally putting mail in the mailbox as I was going around him. He obviously wasn't paying attention to traffic around him, which I guess he doesn't have to do.

Sounds like you got protected and served

Basically you were doing a passing maneuver and got hit by the vehicle you were passing while you were returning to the travel lane. Simply put, the other vehicle was in the proper travel and had the right of way reguardless if he was stopped or moving slower than you would like.

Great thing with right of way, you don't have to care what is going on around you.

Did the cop cite a statute?

He was in a federal vehicle he has right of way.

For what? He didn't get a ticket.

Yeah just sucks because the postal driver wasn't aware of the law either. It just saved him from being in the wrong

I thought I heard somewhere that the USPS is a private company, so it wouldn't be a federal vehicle.
Curious if this is the case.
