So, it appears the once great Velvet is gone pecan.
nola

The spot is being taken over by the District Doughnut group in mid-November.

quote:

The tiny place won’t sell sliders. It won’t have District’s exuberantly creative doughnuts (those can be found across the street at Whole Foods every day until noon).

But it will have all of District’s coffees and milks, including a few new drinks on draft. The Uptown spot will also sell both sweet and savory turnovers and hand pies.

quote:

In October, District will introduce a food truck. The truck will have doughnuts, sliders, french fries and coffee on draft. It will operate six days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All profits from the truck will be given to the nonprofit CrossroadsNOLA.

I've never been to District as they're not convenient and I don't crave doughnuts. I am disappointed to hear the official news about Velvet, but I guess that was to be expected.

Saw this on the DD Facebook page.

My main issue with District Donuts is that their donuts aren't hot/warm.

Sucks. I'd much rather really good espresso bar and that awesome breakfast burrito they had which was also pretty healthy. Donuts and coffee desserts? No thanks.

Really. Give me one hot Krispy Kreme for a dollar once every few months and I'm all set on my breakfast pastry quota.

will do.

I tried that Superfood place recently but their wrap was pretty bland, as would be expected. Hard to beat Wakin Bakin' for a breakfast burrito

Best part of District are the sliders, a mistake not to have them if you ask me.

Yea pretty good, I choose them over the doughnuts when I have gone for breakfast, but if I want lunch in that area I go to Stein's

I'm not saying they need to be piping hot or whatever but I like my donuts warmer. I'd imagine that some of the flavors would be even better that way.

I really like their donut flavors but I do find the dough itself to be rather dough-ey/bread-y compared to KK. Oh and I hate Tastee and Dunkin FWIW.

I can imagine that's pretty tough logistically given the sheer volume of different crazy shite they put out. Props to them, they do really good business. I just don't have much of a sweet tooth, especially for breakfast.

I'll try their sliders one day. Maybe on a Monday when Stein's is closed.

No, but I tried out Humble Bagel on Freret which is only open like 3 days a week or something. It's okay. About on par with what Artz Bagelz was doing, which is to say nothing warranting going out of one's way.

I'm on that same boat but don't they have some savory items too (besides the sliders) ?

Perhaps, but I'm not losing sleep even if I haven't tried the best sliders in town.

So is Velvet gone for good? Or relocating someplace else?

That's the question. The story didn't really address that, though it did mention how they intended to reopen after renovations back in October 2013. So.....
