So I was boiling peanuts in the kitchen and never noticed that the steam stained the countertops. What's the best way to take it out? My wife wants to kill me right now so any help in appreciated.

UPDATE

The paste trick worked like a charm. We made the paste out of peroxide and baking soda. We let it sit on there for about 18 hours and everything was all good. You can't even tell anything was ever there.

don't think there is anything you can do to restore it to original look aside from replacing the granite

What if you stained it uniformly across the whole counter top? Then, it would all look the same?

I'm gonna need an explanation here; how did steam stain the counter?

It stained the sealer, not the granite...I'd assume at least. Remove and replace the sealant?

Actually its not truly stained. What happened is you got some water trapped into the granite. Granite by nature is porous.

Just let it dry out, it can take up to a few days but it should disappear. After it disappears then just reseal it.

Maybe you could paint it with some granite colored paint?

I had added a little Cajun seasoning to the water so now it has a rust like tint to it. The color is River White.

And the water spilled?

Steam doesn't usually push down onto a counter, it goes up.

Mix baking soda and water into a paste. Spread it over stain and let it sit. As the baking soda dries, it will absorb your stain as well. It may look darker in the area for a bit.

I just made that up by the way.

Kidding, google it. It worked for me on some granite stains.
