And do any of you have a specific breeder that you recommend? I finally have a place for one and have read about the mild temper which is a huge selling point. I also like the idea of them being a bit smaller than the American labs.

The fiance has a dachshund now. How well do they interact with other dog?

Really depends on pedigree. And should live well with other dog if it grows up with it.

British labs are very smart dogs. I had one. Got it in a private breeding arrangement for the cost of vet care and a little bit for cost of food. But in a commercial transaction, well bred that is a thousand dollar dog.

By the way, smaller means like five pounds smaller. Mine was still very much a full sized dog. But just as sweet and smart as any dog I've ever been around.

Should expect to be around $1,000. Got a reputable breeder up in the Oxford, Mississippi area. I think you'd be pleased with a British Lab. They are great dogs.

My parents got a fox red from Wildrose for about 2k.

My uncle has gotten a few fox reds and a few black from Wildrose all between 1k and 10k. All used in field trials and hunt tests.

I definitely want a black. I've always had female dogs but would be opposed to a male.

What I know about those dogs is that a lot of hunting instincts were bread out of them. Used to see them at dog shows all the time. Shorter legs, bigger chest dogs. My black lab is half British and she really wasn't a hunter.

They are not smaller than American labs....at least not the ones you see at field trials

Saw a 65 lb male the other day

Labs being 100 lbs is a new thing.

Had one ordered from Huntsfield, but it was a false pregnancy and there were no pups. $1,200 dog and was on a 4 month waiting list for fox red.

This is a myth and not true at all.

My current dog is a British lab and is a great hunting dog. I've had plenty american labs before him and this one is just as good.

Try Dan Jac Kennels in Alma Michigan. Her stock is from New Zealand and is free of a lot of issues health wise the dogs have great confirmation, and drive. Expect to pay a grand minimum as I paid 750 12 years ago for pick male.

Also there is a breeder in TX Dicker? Dickenhall? can't remember they have great labs.

Had big labs for 36 years my last was my last turned the page and opened the book on an Irish Terrier.

I got one last year. Partially trained at the time. He was 9 months old and paid 2000 for him. He is super smart and a great hunter. Very quiet in the blind. He weighs 50# and is now 18 months. Gorgeous dog. And we have 2 dachshunds and a basset hound as well. We have no problems with interaction. He originally came from prairie plains kennels in Vicksburg ms.

I have one that's nine months old and he's a great dog. Calmest lab I have ever seen and he's very smart. Too damn smart sometimes.
