The "Blue Ox" of Minnesota Obamacare is calling it quits.

PreferredOne, the insurer that sold nearly 60 percent of all private health plans on Minnesota's Obamacare exchange, on Tuesday said it would leave that marketplace. PreferredOne's plans were the lowest-cost options on that exchange, known as MNSure.

PreferredOne cited the costs of doing business on MNSure as the reason for its surprising decision, saying that selling plans is "not administratively and financially sustainable going forward," according to KSTP.com, the website of that Minnesota TV News network.

"Our MNsure individual product membership is only a small percentage of the entire PreferredOne enrollment but is taking a significant amount of our resources to support administratively," a company statement obtained by KSTP said. "We feel continuing on MNsure was not sustainable and believe this is an important step to best serve all PreferredOne members."

If we are forced to buy insurance them they should be forced to sell it. Thanks mark Pryor and all democrats for the most fricked up law ever besides prohibition.

Why? They are pulling out of the exchange. Not the state. Their products are still available. They just don't want to deal with the "strings attached" necessary to be on the exchange. And I don't blame them.

Hell no. One government over-reach doesn't mean we should have MORE over-reach to "fix" it. It's absolute folly to suggest that the solution to government's failure is more government.

That said... with 60% of the exchange offering off the market, I can't see how this "will bend the cost curve down" for exchange plans. The government will have to make up the difference.

And let's not forget... the employer mandate hasn't even kicked in yet...

That is the sad part.
These incompetent Obama Administration buffoons are really hurting folks.

Now we can all be cynical discussing the 2012 election, saying "what goes around, comes around," and blaming voters for essentially hurting themselves. Such a POV is certainly justified.

Nonetheless, there are real tragedies on the horizon.
Sadly most of those will come into play after the November elections. Voters in most cases this November won't realize they are next on the chopping block.

I don't know. Are you going to start a thread every time an insurer changes their plans as if this never happened in the history of insurance before the ACA?

The point is that the ACA was supposed to fix the problems. It's a colossal failure.

lsuroadie posted what I was going to say. The perpetual Obama apologists like tt9, asugif, tuba, Rex, etc. will all tout Obamacare as one of Dear Leader's great "accomplishments," but whenever ANOTHER SPECIFIC EXAMPLE of the failure of this stupid legislation comes to light, they scatter like roaches in the daylight.

Crazy monstrosity, this Obamacare. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they had to pass it before they found out what was in it.

Worst. President. Ever.

Yep. Those of us who are self employed/small business owners have already felt the pain, but we're used to getting fricked.

The real pain begins in about 4 months, when the employer mandate kicks in, and the shite hits the proverbial fan. It's too late to stop it now.

Insurers changing their plans is a problem?

I know you are looking for an excuse to complain about it, but "Hey look, there's an insurer in Minnesota changing their plan!" is quite a reach.

And the sheep will re-elect every spineless scallywag that helped pass this legislation prior to this occurring, then bitch and complain about it afterwards.

Every single politician that helped pass this bill needs to be told by their constituents that they're fired. This starts with Mary Landrieu in November. No one should be exempt from the wrath of their actions in 2010.

This isn't a "change." It was, by far, the cheapest ACA plan in Minnesota. And now it's gone. Finished. Bye bye. And they're not changing the plan. They're not offering it any more.

Troll.

The largest insurer in a state pulling out of the exchange, because it is not finically feasible is slightly different than an insurer changing plans.
