I take the wife out for her birthday (December) every year to one of the great restaurants in New Orleans. So far we've been to August, Gautreau's, Stellas!, GW Fins.

I have a quick list that I put together for this year(see below). We loved our experiences at the above listed restaurants (from the tasting menus at August and Stellas to the great atmosphere and food at Gautreau's and Fins), so please try to recommend something similar.

(No particular order)
Herbsaint
NOLA
Bayona
Brigtsen's
Upperline
Mila

Thanks for your help.

If you haven't been to Brigtsen's, I recommend trying it. It's not an August or Stella etc..., but it's fine food and Frank has been posting a lot of good dishes on Facebook this summer that have made me hanker to return soon. I love the shell beach plate.

Why would you want to do the same thing as the other years? Just curious.

Out of that list I would do Herbsaint.

Brigtsen's is good too.

Have y'all ever been to commanders for her birthday? Not to stray away from your list, but that's what I would want.

Nice contribution, CSB. You've been here since May and I haven't seen many roux threads since then. Cool.

Cork, that's a great suggestion. Commander's has been on the top of it's game, lately, from what I hear.

Thanks for the suggestions. Gris, I understand the question of why do the same thing, but it just makes the most sense and something we both enjoy doing and look forward to every year. Her birthdays around Xmas so a lot people forget about it, so I book a nice hotel in Nola the weekend before Xmas and we get to go in and relax and go enjoy a nice meal and celebrate her.

I think Herbsaint is head and sholders above the rest. Brigtsen's would be second but not as consistent as Herb.

To throw a few other similar styled places to your list, you might consider the newly renovated Broussards. Revolution is a tad more trendy, but still excellent dining experience.

I'm making these recs, based on the assumption you're looking primarily for a dining experience over a purely food experience.

I'm a sucker for commanders. My grandmother brought me there for lunch the first time for my sixteenth birthday. Love at first sight and bite.

I love to try new things but since I don't get to go out to eat as often as I would like in New Orleans, I often request commanders over trying something else new.

But I think it's a great place for a birthday dinner

And I've seen people asking about the same 10 restaurants in NOLA about 100 times since then.

Is this thread about roux?

Cool.

That's what I was thinking.

It's a food board, so expect 100 more in the next few months. Different people have different desires in restaurants, different locations requirements, different spending requirements, different dress desires, different dates for their visits that might cause issues with reservations or the days a restaurant is open etc... Get used to it and don't read the threads you don't want to read.

I got interrupted and thought I was back in the roux thread. My bad.

You should probably consider doing less of that and less posting, as well.

How's the view from up there on your high horse? On most message boards, it is common courtesy to SEARCH for an old thread about the question you want to ask. Nobody wants people shitting up the front page with topics that have been discussed 100 times before. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought this, it just so happens I'm the only one who said anything.

It's gotten good props here, Irvine. Check the dining guide also. There may be some reviews and you can search for it, also. Seems like someone posted about it, recently.

It's very good, but it's uptown. FYI

It's very near another Uptown classic, Coquette, which I prefer.

Glad to help. Whatever you decide on, please report back!

Ignore CSB, he's just trolling with nothing valuable to contribute.

Herbsaint or Bayona would be my personal top 2 choices. Both are absolutely excellent.

Bayona must order: Sweetbreads

Herbsaint must order: gnocchi

There is one must order at Herbsaint and it is the spaghetti with fried poached egg.
