On the average day, an unemployed American is more likely to be shopping—for things other than groceries and gas---than to be looking for a new job, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Spending your money is their job. After all Pelosi said unemployment checks create jobs.

We need to keep voting Democrat because we are almost there.

Do we have to download the CPS microdata to get a closer look at this, or is there a source report? That article isn't good and has no links. I'm curious about amount of time spent on average day per activity.
Took a quick look and couldn't find any reference on the ATUS page for any breakdowns by employment status.

I am definitely not fan of the super-long unemployment extension; but I don't know that it is meaningful to say they spend more time shopping then looking for work.
How would you even spend 8 hours a day "looking for work?" Heck with phones and the internet, once you have your resume done, I can't see spending more than 30 minutes a day looking for a new job.

When I lived in Las Vegas a lot of guys gambled on sports/table games with their unemployment money and didn't really attempt to hide the fact. One guy bragged about it

If you send the same resume and cover letter to every position, you're an idiot.

And that's why we suck as a society.

I imagine between driving to different HR departments, doing interviews, acquiring new job skills, networking and more, you could easily fill up five or six hours and still have a couple hours for lunch and interwebs before waiting a few tables at night.

So what is your solution? Stop paying them?

Are you stupid?
Studies show that we are paying them so much money, they spend more time shopping for tvs, games, etc, than they do looking for work.
If you dont see the problem there you are an idiot.

But there is nothing here that says if we lowered unemployment benefits that we would somehow help people find work. This is just another example of wanting to specify what people do & how they act when the government gives them money.

Woah, put the gun down. Simple question, brother-man. Really, what is your proposed solution?

The average time an unemployed person takes to find a job is about 1 month after their unemployment benefits run out.
Now, why do you suppose that is?

Employers, not employees, pay unemployment insurance premiums.

You know for those of us who pay attention to our environment, and aren't afraid of being incorrectly labeled racist... this shite is obvious.
