"Finish all your food, then you can play with your Happy Meal toy"

Thats a super common thing for parents to require of their kids. But since its pretty common knowledge that fast food is terrible for you, parents are basically saying "shovel the maximum amount of lardy health destroying shite into your little body, or you cant play with this toy." Probably should rethink this parenting method.
ETA: I guess to make this crappy thread worth a shite. What are some other common parenting practices that are actually pretty detrimental when you think about it?
See i added a call to action...

I can remember being a kid in the 80s and my parents weren't pissed that I was drinking a soda....they were upset I had opened a new can without drinking the other one I opened and setting it down and forgetting about it.

There is nothing wrong with a kid eating a happy meal every once in a while.

I agree. But theres even less wrong with a kid NOT eating his happy meal.

I saw a study once that said parents who made kids clear their plates at meals could lead to having the child's internal hunger cues messed up... Leading to eventual overeating and obesity.
So it may not be a good thing to force kids to "clean their plates"

Not really a parenting thing, but I love how people like to tell you while you're at work or going to work "don't work too hard".

I drank beer as a kid in the 80s

Are you a fattie with shitty genes?
A McDonalds happy meal once in awhile isn't going to cause obesity.
Blame your fatness on yourself your parents did fine.

But did your parents get pissed if you left a half empty beer can out to get a fresh, cold one?

There is if the other option is not eat.
A full kitchen and prep time to prepare the little shits a healthy meal every single night isn't feasible with two working parents, the boy with soccer practice, and the girl with gym practice.
Chick fil-a nuggests and a fruit cup one evening per week won't hurt them.

A lot of kids don't eat enough at meal times. They just pick at their food during meal times and then want to snack a bunch afterward. Kids get fat when their parents allow them to snack on whatever they want whenever they want. In fact, even for adults, the reason people are so much fatter to day than they used to be is not because of McDonalds, it's because of the constant snacking people do while never actually getting physical activity.
A happy meal every now and then isn't going to hurt a kid at all as long you make sure they're getting their vegetables and stuff with most meals. But still, if you think that happy meals are that terrible, then the proper parenting move would be to simply not take your kid to mcdonalds at all.
But teaching your kid to eat at meal time and not get distracted is a good parenting move.

Yeah I don't think fast food once a week is horrible parenting. Esp of it's treated as a treat and not a convenience.
Problem is that many families don't treat it as such. It's cheap and easy and shuts their kids up.

What makes kids fat is lack of activity combined with bad food.
Growing up my neighbors went to McDonald's or ordered Pizza Hut several times a week. I was friends with the daughter so I ate dinner over there a lot. None of us fat as kids cause we didn't sit inside all day. We played outside as much as we could.
