Leaving for San Antonio tomorrow and will come home Sunday. Any must eat places near Lackland? TIA

I used to live in S.A.**.
Unfortunately all of the "must eats" are on the other (north) side of town. Here's a link to a Google search for this often-asked question about S.A. restaurants: Tip: search "san antonio restaurants site:tigerdroppings.com"
The good news is that S.A. -- like most of Texas -- has an amazingly-good road system that will whisk you and hundreds of thousands of your closest personal friends to any where you want to go... at NASCAR speeds.
I see a Rudy's BBQ just up TX 151 from Lackland. It's a local chain, but is worth one visit if you've never been there. If you want to check the ancient gas station from which the slick new Rudy's stores have grown, it's a short drive (see above) up to Leon Springs.
** Oh, and never-ever call it "San Antone". It's worse than Yankees saying New OrLEENS, ugh. Gringos can't quite get it right, but the funniest local pronunciation I picked up was "SunANTuno", all slurred together.
Have fun and enjoy a margarita for me.

I did too, back in late 60s. Actually an all expenses paid journey through Ft. Sam, courtesy of my good Uncle Sam, on the way to an extended stay in a tropic paradise.
Sadly, I can't remember any good places to eat in SA as we were kin'da busy most of the time I was there. I do seem to remember there was a liquor store just off post and a nice combination curb/gutter behind the barracks where I learned to appreciate the joys of very cheap wine.
Our curb faced Lackland and on a clear night we could have cared less what we could see in the sky over there.

Do they still have Pig Stands in San Antonio?
Look at this!
History of Mary Ann's Pig Stand
I think I ate at this place.

Not sure about now but when I was stationed at Security Hill in San Antonio they had really good and authentic ethnic food (Korean,Thai,Mexican etc) right outside the gate. I've found that to be the case at most AFB's that's where I would look if you like that kind of food.

Thanks for the ideas. Thursday we will be on base but I believe Friday my son will have an off base pass. Saturday we can site see and do touristy type things.
Again, thanks for all the info.

Bohanan's Steak. Bring me some candied jalapeños.
LaFogota is good Mexican with a Michelada. Beer and bloody Mary.

Not so much near Lackland, but Mi Tierra is a must everytime we go to SA.
Rudy's BBQ is good
Also, the grocery market is utterly dominated by HEB, so if you are driving, go pick up some of their oversized muffins and some of their flour tortillas.
