I feel like this is a team that's going to grow significantly each week

You may not even see it on the stat sheet right away but they're getting things in order and building chemistry with every quarter that passes.
This is a team that's going to look a LOT different on the field about halfway through the season. It'll be interesting to watch play out and see who steps up and takes advantage of some pretty fluid positions.

I agree. I think we see an improved team by MS State.

I mean I'm not sitting here saying they're going undefeated. That's unlikely. But they'll end up being a much better football team after a handful of games and it's going to continue from there.

I think I see some potential leadership among the players emerging, which I felt was a missing ingredient all last year, compared to other years at LSU.
However, I do hope the coaches take advantage of the two weeks of cupcakes to really fine tune this team in terms of its execution of basics as well as more elaborate plays. So that when the SEC schedule sets in, LSU will come out like real Tigers!
We should not take either MSU or UK lightly.

The team I saw in the 2nd half can win a lot of games. I loved our resilience, we didn't give up when it was 24-7 and we weren't playing well. We were able to put the bad start behind us, and came back and won it. This team did a lot of growing up last night.

I think Jennings will improve each week... I liked that the coaches loosened the reigns a bit and let him play .... He's got a bazooka for an arm and seems to be pretty accurate with it... Experience prevails...

This season is about the first half of the schedule. This team has some growing to do, but will be a wrecking machine by mid-October. It's all about if we can make it to that point unscathed.

Agreed, the Auburn/Florida road trip will be a huge test for this team. Fortunately, we have 4 straight home games to work things out before we have to go on the road again.

Definitely. People need to remember who we just played. That was not North Texas, it was Wisconsin- a team used to going to bowls, used to running over teams, and extremely motivated to beat us (and by extension the SEC). They had this game circled, and not just because it was the season opener. This was meant to be their statement game.
We, on the other hand, came in having to replace every offensive skill player, as well as both starting defensive tackles. And yet we still managed to win, and along the way it looked like some guys emerged.
Now, we get a couple cupcakes to round into shape against. I think we'll be hugely improved by the next competitive game.

I think we'll have the kind of season where we look great one game and lousy the next. It'll be the kind of season where we beat Bama or Auburn ... and then lose to Arkansas. Hang on for the wild ride I guess.

No doubt.
Last night they proved a few things to themselves. They now know without a doubt that they only need to be themselves to win any game.
They did not need to make any changes that drew them away from who they were or forced them to go into a hurry up pass heavy offense to score quickly.
They also proved that their defense has the potential to dominate by doing exactly what they are already good at. Once they locked Wiscy's receivers down with CBs and Safeties man to man, everyone else was in the box and I can't remember any DBs who allowed a pass completion during that time.
That is some powerful stuff right there. To know that you just need to do what you do best to win any game even if you are behind against the best of teams is the kind of mindset that they had in '07.

Easily after the Wisc first drive of the 2nd half, going down 24-7, it felt like we weren't getting there.
From that point on, LSU completely dominated. It's a sign of a young team, but seeing them storm back and earn a great victory is promising. There will be ups and downs, but I'm looking forward to the growth.

I've said as much recently. We are young, but we are super talented. Jennings and all the pass catchers now have real game tape to look over and analyze. By the Auburn game, the passing game may be on par with the running game. Fournette will get his feet wet in the next 4 weeks and when he's finally ready, we are going to be tough as hell to stop on offense.
We basically held our own for the last half with 3 DTs. All two very young, one with very little experience. Once they get on par, it will allow guys like Hunter to cause some havoc in the backfield. Kwon looked great, but outside of him at LB, the others look meh. Unless that changes, we might see Garrett with a decent amount of play time in the Auburn or Florida game. Secondary is freaking LOADED. That is going to allow us to load the box against Auburn, Arkansas, MSU, and Bama.

Secondary looked awesome..tight coverage..they played lockdown man to man coverage..that says alot right there about our defensive backs..Jalen Collins really impressed me last nite after a mediorcre season last year..he's really improved..I think Jammal Adams will be starting by mid season also..wow best is yet to come..
