Labradoodle duck dog?

Has anyone ever heard of using a labradoodle as a duck dog? Mine is the most athletic dog I've ever owned but I live along way from a duck hunting Mecca. He's every bit as trainable as the labs I used to hunt with and seems to have the instincts. Just wondering if any are used for hunting?

Probably better at it than labradors.

Poodles were bred for water retrieving. WERE. Now they're bred to look ridiculous. But, some probably still have the instincts.

People use labs and people use poodles so I would think the instinct and skills would be there. I've been around a few doodles and they are very likable and intelligent. I would think they could cut it in the field, probably will take some extra training. Designer breeds generally don't come from hunting stock, they usually come from show dog stock.

Some people still breed poodles for hunting. They're a little bigger than typical standard poodle.
My first dog will be one.

They also don't shed which is a huge plus. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it showed some good instinct as a pup.

Exactly why I want one when I get a dog.
Figure I'll end up with a chick who wants dogs inside. So, I want one that doesn't shed.
Dog hair indoors is one of my pet peeves

I would definitely laugh.
But if the dog worked right.... I would shut up pretty quickly

My wife wanted one but I was afraid of them not coming from hunting stock. Also, I'd be concerned about one with even a little longer hair and what would happen with it in the mud.

Do your homework and buy from a good breeder.
Labs = can be good duck dogs.
Poodles = can be good duck dogs.
Don't see why not.

This bitch won't retrieve anything. Not a tennis ball, not a stick, nothing. Loves the water though.

Those feet are exactly why I didn't want one. Don't have to worry about it on my lab. He's clean by the time we get home after being in his kennel.

They do shed. You have to be selective and find one with the right coat. You need a second generation from an F2 bred with an F2. Otherwise the likelyhood of them shedding is relatively the same as any other lab. I have been looking at them. But what I have been seeing is that most F1s (lab/poodle) shed for the most part. Just not as bad. An F2 (labradoodle/labradoodle) have a tendency to have the better coat with less shedding.

Never keep up with a lab. I've been there.

My dog is first generation. Dad is standard poodle and mom is golden. Sheds very little, but does shed some.
