St. Louis restaurants...

So, I'm heading out for a week in St. Louis. Looking to make one night 'date night' with my girlfriend. We're looking at making reservations at Tony's downtown but honestly, it's a little pricey for my budget. Anyone here have any thoughts or advice on a nice locally owned restaurants? I'm not a cheapskate and I'm completely willing to pay a premium amount for a good food experience but Tony's is a bit much. Any thoughts?

I started a thread a few weeks back before I took my son to St Louis. Criteria was a bit different, but you will find some good info here. LINK
Of the places recommended we did go to Pappys, Broadway Oyster Bar, Milo's (on the hill), and Flying Saucer. I'd recommend any of these in a heartbeat. Have fun, it's a great city. Just watch out for Molotov cocktails and rioters.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the link to the other thread. Looking to take her to a nice place but it's a week long trip and I can't drop $300 in one night. Sounds like Milo's is right up our alley. Thanks for the input!

I was born and raised in Missouri. My 2 cents....if you are going to go to the Hill, I would suggest Amighetti's for lunch. Great sandwiches and salads.
As far as dinner places, I would suggest going to the Soulard district. There is Franco's which I really like. Also the Broadway Oyster Bar which was previously mentioned.

If you like beer or wine, a good relatively inexpensive place downtown is the Bridge Tap House. Great beer and wine selection, date type atmosphere. Cheap entrees, good apps, charcuterie. I'll go there from time to time, get an app, an entree, and a couple good craft beers (albeit 12oz pours) and only spend about $40.
A more expensive, but incredible experience, is the Libertine in Clayton. The chef is from New Orleans and used to work in the kitchen at Commander's Palace.
I've been to those two places.
A couple places I've heard are really good but havent tried are Farmhaus and Sidney Street Cafe. I know Sidney Street Cafe was James Beard nominated. Farmhaus might have been. Niche in Clayton is also good, I've heard, but I think they recently had a fire and may not be open right now.
A more expensive, but incredible experience, is the Libertine in Clayton. The chef is from New Orleans and used to work in the kitchen at Commander's Palace.

The Libertine.
The executive chef Josh Galliano has been in the running for a Beard award multiple times and is from right here in South Louisiana. I've known this kid a LONG time and even before he went to culinary school and did his stints at Commander's and Restaurant Daniel, he knew how to cook and he just got better.

If not for our date night, this sounds like a great place for before the game Friday night. Thanks for the info!

Just checked out the website. This place looks amazing. Once I confirm the location in relation to where we're staying, I'll probably be making reservations assuming it's not too far. Thanks for all the input!

For those of ya'll from there or have visited, any advice on things to do?
We're going to the Cards/Cubs game Friday, definitely gonna see the Arch, and spend Memorial Day at the Fairmont betting on the ponies, but not sure what we are doing during the day tomorrow and Friday. She has family from there so we'll get input from them, but anyone else have any recommendations?

Be wary of all the construction going on around the Arch right now. I've heard people say recently that some cap drivers aren't driving all the way to it because the routese changes daily from the construction. Still should go see it though, just plan appropriately.
There are a TON of good local craft breweries. If that's what you're into, there are a group of them relatively close together downtown and other spread out throughout the city.
Forest Park is really cool to check out and just walk around. There is a museum in there, but I've never been to it. Same with the zoo there.
More kid friendly stuff would be things like City Museum downtown, Magic House in Kirkwood, or the Science Center by Forest Park.
There are wineries near the city too, but unless that's something you're gung ho about, I wouldnt worry about that.

The zoo is world class, Six Flags is a good time but only open on weekends this time of year, touring Anheuser Busch is actually pretty cool, definitely go to the top of the Arch. Lots to do.

4 Hands is just south of downtown, they have some good food there as well. Urban Chesnut and Schlafly are closer to mid-town I think, but the distinction is negligible, they're right there. Alpha is downtown. Morgan St is in Laclede's Landing right there as well. I think Square One might be nearby, I just don't remember exactly where it is.
There are actually craft brewery tours that will will take you to like 4 or 5 places in a day, you just buy one ticket I think. I haven't done that but I've seen them pass through while I was at one of the breweries.

Did a leg in St. Louis for my bachelor party, and we spent a full day doing brewery tours.
We went to Schlafly, Square One, Perennial, Urban Chestnut, Civil Life, and 4 Hands.
I'd rank those... 4 Hands, Perennial, Schlafly, Civil Life, Urban Chestnut, and Square One. I liked the spirits and Square One more than their beer. There are plenty that we didn't make it to either.
We rented a party bus for the day, I'm sure you could do it with Uber or cabs, and some of them walking.
