I'm surprised that many people still buy CD's.

That was my initial thoughts as well. Other than people that can't afford computers.

There are two major reasons I'd still buy a CD:

1. I want to rip a lossless copy.

2. I want a specific mastering, and that would often mean buying used.

The major cd buyers of today are the ones who are listening to them on high-end audio equipment. They most definitely can afford a computer. They just have nice enough sound equipment to hear the difference between an mp3 and a lossless audio file format.

I'm betting a lot of CD buyers are car listeners without audio input jacks/USB input.

Me right there. I don't buy CDs anymore but I still use them in my car.

Flac is OK. I prefer physical CDs.

I figured the percentage of vinyl sales would be way higher today than it actually shows on the graph.

I don't get this either. I love music and the first thing I did is rip the head unit out of my 4runner and Sequoia and replace with a pioneer with HD radio tuner, Bluetooth, hands free phone and multiple USB ports. I can't even imagine hassling with a physical CD.

Considering you can get everything I just mentioned above in a $100 unit off amazon I don't see why anyone would settle for less.

It's worth swapping out just for the hands free phone and gps instructions through your speakers alone.

Eta if you search my user name and pioneer you should find my very detailed install write up including pictures of how well these pioneer units work with android phones. I was particularly proud of how I installed a USB port in my glovebox to hide the fact I have a 32gb stick plugged in all the time. The other USB wire is inside my console and can be used to charge the phone. These days I hardly use the stick anymore thanks to Google music.

I have a really good reason not to do all that. My work drive is 5 minutes.

No I don't, driving isn't fun to me, it's just something I do for need.
I'm not going to bike because it would take a lot longer and I don't want to sweat my arse off on the way to work. Gas isn't an issue since my rive is 5 minutes. It's as much as 8 minutes sometimes

I thought the same thing.

Way higher percentage than I thought it'd be.

That's a great looking system, but I don't want any trouble.
