once the music and movie industries wake up and quit treating us like stupid kids who will take whatever 128kbps mp3 or DRM shite they force down our throats, i'll return to respectability.

in the meantime, thank GOD there are audiophiles out there meeting our needs.

its a labor of love.

Where's the link to pay the artists for the fruits of their labor?

I don't get this either. I love music and the first thing I did is rip the head unit out of my 4runner and Sequoia and replace with a pioneer with HD radio tuner, Bluetooth, hands free phone and multiple USB ports. I can't even imagine hassling with a physical CD.

I'm sure there are plenty of ways to transcend the need for CDs in even the oldest of clunkers, but I think the reality is that a lot of people still just use a CD player. It will mostly die with the baby boomers. As easy as it probably is to install, remember that there are an alarming number of people who don't even know how to work the factory radio that came with their car. Car technology in that regard is lagging behind, too. I bought an Accord only four years ago that came with a 6-CD changer as part of the "upgrade" package.

I work from home, so my driving time is zero on most days. If I drove often enough, I'd probably look into enhancing my music source options in my car (though I have an input jack which I use to stream toddler radio on Pandora when the kids are the in the car). And while I don't buy CDs anymore, I still listen to CDs I burned 12 years ago with a 2x External CD burner that was like $200 back then.

Ultimately, I don't really listen to that much music though (which is odd being a former musician). I put on Pandora or Spotify (the desktop program is the shite) when I have to do an editing marathon. I have, however, gone on a FLAC binge when I bought my awesome headphones and amp/DAC stack for the PC.

what if i told you there are many artists that are on this site?

that even bands you've heard have been known to upload music to it from time to time that is exclusive to this site?

the question isn't about stealing as much as its about being part of a community that has painstakingly tracked down rare and out-of-print material and curating collections in a way no commercial music corporation will ever do.

same with MAME ROMs. its not as much about 'stealing galaga and pacman' as it is about preserving the history of arcade games.

Then I would ask you where I could find a link to buy a professionally pressed CD of their work.

I'm not talking about stealing at all, either. I just prefer to reward the entertainers for the trade. Personally, I think it leads to a better product being put out.

as has been repeated many times, most artists make pennies or fractions of pennies from their music being played or purchased. the make most money from concerts/touring.

this is about the RECORD COMPANIES being screwed, not the artists..and hence why they're freaking out.

Yes. You have been using that line to justify for a long time now.

I think the current online digital offerings are a joke so I purchase the hard copy, make my own and everyone wins, even the evil record exec.
