At a recent trade expo for the general public and struck up a conversation with an exhibitor who was selling an upscale consumer/in-home product. It was a visually beautiful/appealing product and, yes, everybody needs it in their day to day lives. Impeccable Rolex/Mercedes/Louis Vuitton type quality. About 5 minutes into the conversation, he revealed to me that yesterday his sales were $3k, an average day was $8k and at one recent trade show in a trendy upscale metro area he sold $110k in one day. This certainly made lightbulbs go off in my head. I'm trying to estimate what the guy's commission would be. I'm thinking as high as 50% (he mentioned that with proceeds from the $110k day, he bought a luxury item that I peg at about $40k).

Trying to tap in to the MT board's experience with this sort of stuff and hoping you could share experiences and inside scoop. I'm always a bit skeptical about these gigs and approaching it from the standpoint of "All that glitters is not gold". TIA.

Why don't you open up a designated sales area or even a franchise for them?

Then you don't have to live on the road going to crappy trade shows every weekend?

Not a chance that HE would have been inflating those numbers.

Well of course. Then again, he might have been shooting straight. I think you could probably say that since the beginning of recorded time.

What kind of "must have" product was this? When you stated it was a trade show open to the public I pictured this guy:

I hear it really helps develop your slapping form in case you need to put a hooker back in her place.

That slap chop guy is the live version of Moe Sizlak from the Simpsons.
