Why don't they just get rid of the NFL pre season?

Serious question.

1) Games are boring as frick and nobody gives a shite.

2) Tons of injuries.

CFB is fine without a preseason. NFL doesn't need one either.

Extra $$$.

I agree that it's pretty pointless in the modern era, though.

So you can get your players ready to start the season.

You can ease your rookies into action by playing other rookies/players of lesser talent.

You can see how players react to certain situations and practice situational football against teams other than your own.

It allows you to establish depth charts and see which players show promise, and which players won't make the cut.

You realize rosters must be cut down to 53 players from 90 before the season starts? What's the best way to evaluate players? That's why preseason is important. This may sound like a joke but watch Hard Knocks and you'll gain an appreciation for it.

If all baseball spring training games were televised you would want them gone too saying too many lesser talents playing. Truth is both are necessary, but owners want to try to make money so they televise what amounts to NFL spring training.

Yeah no. Teams need the preseason whether you like it or not. And college football is usually a mess week 1. It's a fun mess, but it's still a mess.

i don't think it should be completely eliminated but 2 games instead of 4 would be better

I used to say stupid shite, and stick up for the preseason bullshite, but I'm not a preseason assface anymore. It needs to be done away with.

I think the teams still benefit from having 4 "in-game" chances to evaluate players.

I always though it would be better to cut the preseason games down to 1 or 2.

For the rookies have a D-league composes of reserve squads (like European soccer). Have the reserve squads play a small 8 game season during the year.

Have the games played in smaller stadiums on Wednesdays or Thursdays (Saints reserves could play games at Gormley). This would give rookies they aren't quite ready a chance to grow and would allow 3rd string and backup players to do more than just hold a clipboard.

Would also give teams a chance to have extra players ready in case of injuries.

Would basically be what NFL Europe was trying to be except each team would have total control of their reserve team and those teams could practice and play games out of those same playbooks.

Could also give young coaches and officials a chance to work in the NFL style and get their feet wet.

It's 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. It's a necessity. The minute they "cut preseason" it will only be off TV. The teams will hold simulated games regardless. The tv part is for money, but the "games" would still occur.

Also, I'm only 29 but I think joint practices have also picked up in frequency and intensity. If anything, this shows teams would like even more simulated games (who wouldn't) before playing.

I don't know how any couch potato can say with a straight face that "ya, these guys have it figured out, only morons would practice any more from here."

Are you ever not an a-hole? Or is that your TD schtick?

If you find them boring, then don't watch. I swear, some people have absolutely zero problem solving skills.

Clearly false. You don't give a shite. There's s difference.

I like preseason. It's like a teaser for the regular season. You get to see the young guys on the field and how they look in game situations.

How often are college teams rusty as hell in that first game? All the time.
