Is this normal procedure, or should I be worried.

State is MS, I'm 24, African American, never legally owned a pistol before. No former military or CC permit. Are these delays something that normally happens? What type if issues can cause a delay?

I was under the impression that you could only be put on hold for a maximum of three business days. After that, the FFL can proceed with the sale.

Also, I think everyone will eventually get at least one hold if they buy enough firearms. It's the 7 days that sounds odd.

This was my understanding as well.

But to the OP, you're going to have to tell us more about your self before your question can be answered.

Could be as simple a someone else with your name being a felon that is banned from owning a gun that they need to research or could be something in your past. Did you put your SSN on the form?

Sounds weird, but it might honestly be because you're black. I've done some crimes and have always walked out within a few minutes with the gun. I have a harder time getting western union money

I bet it's because you didn't put your SSN on there. When I use to call in to the ATF, they put a hold a majority of the times for first time buyers with no SSN provided. Others that have purchased before with no SSN provided went right through.

It's either that or you had a crime.

eta: responded to wrong person. Dammit rookie move

thought it was 3 business days

quote:

“. . .NTN ___ will be delayed while the NICS continues its research. If you do not receive a final response from us, the Brady Law does not prohibit the transfer of the firearm on day/date.”

The NICS Examiner will provide the FFL with the date of the third business day after the firearm check was initiated. Business days do not include the day the check was initiated, Saturdays, Sundays, and any day state offices in the state of purchase are closed. If the FFL has not received from the NICS a final determination after three business days have elapsed since the delay response, it is within the FFL’s discretion whether or not to transfer the firearm (if state law permits the transfer).
