I've bought several and had to wait every time. I had someone run a background check to see what could be the hangup- record is clean. They weren't sure. Told me I should get approved/get a pin through FBI, I think it was. I'm never in a hurry when I do buy so no biggie.

It most likely a five day hold (I've never heard of a 7 day hold and I've handled hundreds, if not thousands of 4473s) and, yes, they are common. Do you work in a plant or have a TWIC card? For some odd reason a lot of those get delayed.

Was able to pick it up today without any issue. It's a shite pistol by outdoor board standards, a Hi point .40 cal, but its only purpose is to be used in the car so I'm not tripping. If I can't hit someone 12 inches away trying to car jack me, then I don't deserve to have it anyway
Now, to get a CC permit and a smaller handgun for daily carrying, maybe a compact 9mm or Taurus .45
