What are things people are afraid of that you don't understand why?

People have fears of lots of things. Some I just do not understand, like clowns.

I don't see why chick's are deathly afraid of bugs.

the three woman in my house are afraid of any bug. could be a fly, a caterpillar, or a lizard. it doesn't matter

My guess - clowns ellicit a primal instinct response because they are a caricature of pedophilia.
I don't get people that have never had a bad run in with dogs but are afraid of them.

Because you learn at a young age to love clowns, to trust clowns. But what are clowns really?
Creepy guys who are older and love to play around kids. They live with makeup on and are all strange. A normal sane person doesn't strive to be a clown. A clown lures you in with a fresh flower, and before you know it he is squirting on your face.
Clowns are just creepy. Then as kids we all watched Killer Klowns, and feared of being wrapped in cotton candy and our blood drunk through silly straws.
The IT and that creepy Clown. "everything floats down here"
They are pretty creepy.
But I don't fear clowns.
