Six former platoon mates of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who spent nearly five years as a Taliban captive in Afghanistan, are shopping proposals for a book and movie that is sharply critical of him, Yahoo News is reporting.

Bergdahl is now being questioned by the Army concerning the mysterious circumstances surrounding his capture in 2009. The Army is trying to determine whether he merely wandered too far from base or should be charged with desertion.

A draft of the book proposal, obtained by Yahoo News, asserts that Bergdahl was a “premeditated” deserter who “put all of our lives in danger.”

Bergdahl’s former colleagues describe him as a “loner” who sometimes was gung-ho about fighting the Taliban. But shortly before his disappearance, the soldiers write, Bergdahl started “to talk about what it would be like to just get lost in the mountains surrounding the outpost.” He also began studying the local languages and mailed his laptop, photos and other personal items home.

When Bergdahl disappeared, the platoon frantically searched for him, chasing fragments of intelligence that included reports that a “strange white man” matching Bergdahl’s description had been seen “crawling in the reeds” just outside the base.

But the controversy over Bergdahl’s release — he was swapped May 31 for five Taliban prisoners held at the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba — is reportedly complicating the book’s chances at publication. At least one publisher raised concerns that the book would give ammunition to conservative critics of the Obama administration.

It's an interesting story and one worth telling. No issue with them trying to make money off of their experience. They aren't the first and won't be the last. I have no problem with Bergdahl doing the same. Of course I think he'll likely be in jail for decades before he is able to benefit from his book deal, but that's ok.

That's the American way, kill 2 birds with one stone.

Make money, and out a traitor.

The interesting part is that, apparently, an exec at Simon And Schuster refused to take the book explicitly for political reasons, e-mailing their agent that they don't want the Berghdal exchange to be used against Obama by the Republicans.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for S&S to declare this as an in-kind contribution to the President.

My personal take is that this is an effort to get their story out. They believe (right or wrong) that the truth is not being told. Will see how it plays out.

I think it was told, its just that the usual suspects taint, hide and mock the truth

That's my take as well. If they believe Bergdahl is a deserter and that he may never be held accountable for his actions then this is a logical step in working out their frustration.

Good for them. Would be nice to hear what the employees from Benghazi have to say also.

Understood, but I'd prefer they wait till the issue is resolved one way or the other before doing this. The timing makes it look like a money grab before the story fades from the headlines.

Good. I want the truth told; we know that Obama is going to whitewash the Bergdahl desertion and his (Obama's) outrageous trade of terrorist high-up to get him back.

Not the mention the $350K payday for a man who got his mates KILLED, looking for him.

I hope those soldiers get filthy rich, for standing up and telling the truth. I'd go see the show even if it sucked.

Pathetic, why? Because their narrative runs counter to yours? Really?

Oh yeah...like the DO re the IRS and Fast n Furious. Or those in the VA who made $bonuses for effectively MURDERING sick folk who needed prompt treatment. Won't happen, because somebody will 'look' bad, WF. They will run out the clock.
