So I was looking into obtaining my concealed carry permit but several of my friends have advised me not too. They said the government will know who has the guns. I think this is a bit ridiculous but I remember after the Connecticut shooting New York listed everyone in a paper that had a concealed permit and showed their home address. I thought that was insane. So it does worry me some. My friends that are saying this all own several guns. I would want a permit to carry for hiking and camping trips. I would not carry very much in public.

Has this issue stopped any of yall?
What does the outdoor board say?

Didn't Louisiana pass a law about divulging information on who had CCL?

if that's all you want it for then why do you want a CCP? why not just open carry?

The places I hike there are a lot of hippies/liberals hiking too. I just don't want to go through the hassle of explaining it to them all the time.

Just took the class. Can't decide if I want to go ahead and get the license or not. Another thing to consider is pretty much one sip of alcohol puts you over the limit. It drops from .08 to .05.

Yes. It's a good law but it has exceptions.

Act 401 of 2013. Rep. Jeff Thompson.

Prohibits the release, dissemination, or publishing of information with respect to concealed handgun permits and applications. Both are not a matter of public record and not subject to a public records request. Provides for criminal penalties for violators.

However, the information may be released: (1) with a court order, (2) if the concealed handgun permit holder or applicant is charged with a felony offense involving the use of a handgun, (3) the permit holder or applicant consents to the release of the information, or (4) the information has been made public by the permit holder or applicant.

You realize that the government has access to your information anyway right? Although it may not be as readily accessible as with a CC.

You know that form you fill out when purchasing a firearm. That info is available to law enforcement.

Then NSA is reading your posts and marking your IP address anyway. They already know you have guns. Hell, they probably know what underwear you have on.

Carrying concealed has a way of changing most people. After a short time, they usually become much more aware of their circumstances from a security standpoint, especially their nearby loved ones. Also, they commnly feel "naked" when they're NOT carrying concealed. Once you start cc on hiking and camping trips you'll prob find yourself cc more in public, as well.

No. Lots of good explanations already why it hasn't.

There's a lot more to cc than just carrying in the situatioins/places a person "thinks" may carry an increased security risk. Yeah, the outdoors may seem to be more of a security risk to you than public, but who can predict the future and what may happen? Do you want to be responsible for the safety and security of you and your loved ones or do you want that to leave that to someone else?

1. Bogus.

2. Do you ever travel to other states (like Alabama) where it's illegal to have a loaded handgun in your vehicle w/o a CCW permit ?

The biggest question you should ask yourself is this:

Who in his/her right mind would try to take arms away from people in Louisiana? Who would actually volunteer for that job?

If you commit a felony or something that's a different scenario altogether. But I highly doubt you have to worry about them coming to take them in general. No chance in hell in this state.

The government should know that if someone lives in Louisiana, they probably own SEVERAL guns.

This only occurs if you buy from a licensed dealer. If you inherited your guns or bought them privately the government has no involvement in the transaction.

I know several people who only obtain guns this way and refuse to get a CCL bc of the government involvement.

And should the unthinkable happen, THEY will be NO better off than anyone else.

I can say I lost mine just as well as they say they don't have any. In the end, it will not matter. Powder-sniffin dogs will find them.
