"First off, one of the best running backs I've ever seen was Cecil Collins - power, speed, balance - this kid pretty much has the same thing," Faulk said. "You can see him bouncing off tackles. That just goes to show you his power and speed at the same time. Plus, the speed to break away from people. He's got all of that in one package. Every running back has good eyes, but it's also a feel. You know where you're going before the play is started."

Faulk actually said he was a big fan of Spurrier when he was in high school in Carencro and was leaning heavily towards playing for the Gators.

They were the top dog program of his day. I can't blame him for being interested, especially with the state of LSU's program at the time.

first i have ever heard of this. would have sucked. Dinardo would have had a tough time bringing back the magic if that would have happened.

Yeah, that's not really a shock. We were losing all the big time prospects to out of state programs at the time. Peyton Manning, kordell Stewart, Travis minor, warrick dunn, anthony thomas. The list goes on and on.

I know. I'm just trying to envision what the state of the program would be like now had he went elsewhere

Always respect Kevin Faulk. Great LSU ambassador.
Good luck in life after NFL, Coach Faulk!

However, those thoughts changed with the birth of his daughter, Tanasha. There was no way he was leaving her behind.

Never knew this. I guess you can't really give Dinardo full credit for landing Faulk.

In all fairness, Manning wasn't coming to LSU even if they were a contender then. I seriously believe that family hates LSU.

They do and it's because of Archie.

If I recall correctly, that list includes Marshall Faulk

They do and its not a secret. Archie hates LSU with every ounce of his being. Can't blame him either, we were his biggest rival.

The list goes on and on and on. Its amazing how many NFL stars we missed out on during our down years.

LSU probably didn't recruit him or not to play RB. He went to San Diego State it's not like he chose a better program or equal.

Truth.

Also recruited Brandon Jacobs as a DE and it pissed him off.

It's hilarious at the end of the book of manning when he asks his grand kids who is their favorite teams are. One says LSU and he asks another one if he is joking.

Kordell Stewart and Ike Hilliard as well, among many others.

ETA: Someone already mentioned Stewart

I don't believe this for a second. Archie Manning is not the hating type. He simply advised his sons as well as he knew how to. And that advise was obviously to avoid the dumpster fire that was LSU. If I remember correctly Archie sent his boys to play for the same coordinator. If the guy had been at LSU that's where the Mannings would have gone. To the Mannings this wasn't a rah, rah thing, it was a business thing.
