ok lets say im looking to buy a new desktop for my older dad based on my previous post

I have a couple of quick questions

1. what should I choose between windows 7,8, or 8.1? trying to keep it simple obviously

2. for price, i7 is out, but is it worth it to pay extra for the i5 or will the i3 be enough for him? fast is good

1. 8.1 is very easy to use

2. i3 will be plenty for simple internet browsing

What's your budget? If he's just doing general browsing, CPU is not really that important. As Blue said, the i3 would be more than enough, and Windows 8.1 is very user-friendly. What's more important is that you give him as few privileges as possible as was mentioned in your other thread.

Also, if he's just doing basic stuff like browsing the web, watching youtube, etc., you may want to consider an iPad or some other tablet. The iPad in particular, would be the ultimate in locked-down idiot-proof simplicity, with an extremely intuitive interface. My mother, who's in her 60s and has never been able to do anything on a computer besides log into MSN and play farmville, is now an expert iPad user. Her ignorance to safe web surfing still exists, but the limitations inherent in iOS pretty much make it impossible to ruin, and those same limitations would likely be invisible to your dad.
