Just days after Marvel showed the strength of its brand with a $94 million haul for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Warner Bros. has decided to release “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 3D on March 25, 2016, avoiding a high-profile showdown with “Captain America 3” on May 6, 2016.

This is probably because of GotG doing so well. This is really shocking to me that they are moving out of a summer release.

March is a weird place to move it, but whatever.

This movie is gonna suck
No one puts a blockbuster in March
They would be better off with a Christmas or Thanksgiving release

But look at what Warner Bros. has planned between 2016 and 2020.

quote:

Warner Bros, also announced release dates for many other titles, including its entire DC Comics slate.

“Batman v Superman” has taken the release date of the Gerard Butler movie “Geostorm,” which now has an unspecified 2016 release date.

The DC movies that are expected to fill this ambitious pipeline include Zack Snyder‘s “Justice League,” standalone spinoffs for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman, as well as a “Shazam/Black Adam” movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and a “Sandman” movie that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is producing and may star in.

The rest of the slate looks like this:

Untitled DC Film - 08/05/16

Untitled DC Film - 06/23/17

Untitled DC Film - 11/17/17

Untitled DC Film - 03/23/18

Untitled DC Film - 07/27/18

Untitled WB Event Film - 11/16/18

Untitled DC Film - 04/05/19

Untitled DC Film - 06/14/19

Untitled DC Film - 04/03/20

Untitled DC Film - 06/19/20

Untitled WB Event Film - 11/20/20

12 DC films in 4 years.

The Hunger Games was released on March 23, 2012, and promptly made over $400 million in the U.S. alone.

The first Hunger Games was released in March and it opened with 153 mil. It will do fine.

ETA: RollTide1987 beat me to it.

More than likely those are the Justice League movies.

Meh. I wouldn't want to release them both at the same time either.

Interesting. I was of the mindset that Marvel would have moved.

A Superman Batman movie is going to outdraw everything. On name alone it's a $1 billion film. If they market well enough, beating Avengers take is not out of the question.

yeah, it is an odd move. How can a Batman v Superman movie lose to any other superhero movie?

honestly, i feel like this may have to do with Disney now owning Marvel. Look at the publicity they had for Guardians. it was everywhere. it was at disney world, in all disney games, all disney tv stations non stop. their market share is unreal.

I dont think WB wanted to go against the giant mouse.

Get it first. It'll be the first big blockbuster of the year. Total focus will be on it.

Even if the solo release nets 10% more revenue, 10% of a billion dollars is a shitload of money.

It was relentless. For the past week and a half they had forced viewings of the expanded previews prior to every movie at AMC. Even if you avoided the commercials that ran non-stop on television, they showed the damn expanded preview prior to the Guardians movie itself.

But Captain America? Even as a Cap fan, BvS will beat Cap 3 at the Box Office, badly. Even if neither would have ducked the date, head to head BvS wins. No question.Disney marketing isn't that scary.

The MoS marketing was pretty extreme, but GotG takes the cake.
