Jeff Duncan's 5 winners and losers from the scrimmage

Winners:
1. Brandin Cooks. The rookie wide receiver was a human highlight reel. His leaping 40-yard reception on the first series set up the first touchdown and scored on a nifty 30-yard stop-and-go that left Rod Sweeting his tracks. He also had a long kickoff return on special teams. Official stats weren't taken but rest assured Cooks had a monster day.
4. Derek Dimke. The strong-legged young kicker again bested incumbent Shayne Graham in field goal drills. Dimke went 3 for 3 while Graham missed his first attempt and finished 2 for 3. The competition is close but Dimke appears to be leading early on.

Losers:
2. Joe Morgan. Morgan didn't do anything wrong necessarily but he was noticeably quiet on a day when so many big pass plays occurred. Not sure what his final stats were but they had to be meager.
4. Shayne Graham. See above.

1. The secondary. The ball-hawking skills of Champ Bailey and Byrd were sorely missed on pass defense. Other than Ball's INT and a handful of pass breakups, it was a long day for this injury-depleted group. They surrendered a lot of big plays downfield in the passing game, and it didn't seem to matter which quarterback was in the game. Who knows how bad it would have been if Brees had played.
I believe they will look much better when the D-line is unleashed in the 1st pre season game.

Ingram looks a lot slimmer in that vine where the backs are running out.

Those are some perty running backs running down the line in that one vid.

If the lines actually went all out, I'd be happy because our OL just dominated.
But it is a scrimmage so chances are the lines aren't even trying hard at all, nor can the DL touch the QB. I'd be more worried that our LBs let these RBs run wild on the next level

100% agree. Saw two clips where D-line over pursues and RB cuts back.

Cadet's TD run was from a cutback on defense over pursuit. Would've been an 80 yard TD had it started at the 20.

That's what zone running allows for. You get the defense going one way, and if they're not being disciplined in their lanes, it's a wrap.

3. The backups QBs. Ryan Griffin and McCown each had their moments on the day. Griffin appeared to make more plays and produce more scoring drives on this day, but McCown also shined at times. Each had his hiccups. But all things considered, both quarterbacks made the most of their extra playing time with the first-team offense in Drew Brees' absence.
So underwhelming :/

Whoa, that Cadet run at 2:00 minutes was really impressive.
