Some days I just have trouble getting a solid hook up. This afternoon I had 4 good solid hits on ribbit frogs and didn't land one.

Yes I am waiting until I feel the weight of the fish. Using medium heavy rod, braided line, and I believe it's a 3/0 gamamatsu hook might be 4/0.

No idea what I'm doing wrong, I'm setting the hook hard enough to pull the bottom of the lake up. I think my hook choice is the problem.

I have video of today's failure I will upload later for critique, be gentle.

Use a 6/0 hook and barely hook the frog. Sometimes I use a swimbait hook. They are too hard for the hook to penetrate. Also I count to 5 when fishing frogs before setting the hook....Good luck

I like a trailer hook too. But yeah, the key is patience with the hook set. I'd never make it to 5 though...lol. 3? More likely.

The Sebile Pivot Frog was debuted at ICast & is going to be a very good innovation in frog fishing.

Definitely use a bigger hook. I like the 5/0 or 6/0 screw in frog hooks. Stanley even makes a double hook for the ribbits. Regular worm hooks will result in poor hookup ratios.

I've never found the trailer hooks to help but have friends who swear by them.

stanley ribbit double hooks

Get nice size treble hook.
Cut third treble off.
Slip treble hook eye over hook shaft making sure the hooks are up on your 4/0 or 5/0 you are using for your frog hook.
Basically it's a trailer hook and will catch some short striking fish.

5/0 and give it a three count, then hit that bastard hard. If there's no weight, duck.
