Also can it be called a 'Western' country?

What are the specifications for Western?

It is neither third world nor developed. It is a "developing" country.

You serious? You really think Mexico is a 3rd world country?

They may just act like a 3rd world country sometimes.

No Mexico it is a third world country

But Cuba is not
Now go learn why and start correcting people who improperly use the term.

3rd world economy
3rd world people
3rd world public order/crime and that's being generous.

We don't use the term "3rd World" anymore. It's developed or developing.

Not 3rd world. I'd say developing.

To paraphrase PJ O'Rourke:

Driving in third world countries, such as Nicoragua, African countries, some middle east, and Italy (granted, Italy is not a third world country, but nobody has told the Italians that)...

In humanistic geography, 3 broad categories often used are-

-Developed
-Developing
-Under-developed

Mexico is often lumped as a 'developing' country.

With a 53% poverty rate I'd say they have a lot of work to do.

It is still much more 'developed' than 'under-developed' nations. Agriculture, tourism, and some industries do very well there.

They'd be doing fine if not for rampant kidnappings/murders/drugs.

A lot of people need to educate themselves on what a 3rd world country means.

The original meaning of the term came from the cold war.

US and allies were First World.
Soviets and their allies were Second World.
Those not aligned with either side were Third World.

It has come to be used to describe poor counties since then though.

ETA: Mexico is third world by definition.
