My wife and I are going over to Orange Beach in a couple of weeks. We were talking about it and we just want to take our time getting down there so we are going to go from Bay St. Louis along the coast all the way to Dauphin Island and then over to Orange Beach. I was thinking of maybe picking up some shrimp to fry when we get to the condo. Any idea where would be the best place to pick them up at and who would have the best prices? I would prefer to get them right off of the boat.

You can get them right off the boat at the marina next to the hard rock in Biloxi

Billy's Seafood in Bon Secour, AL

He will have whatever you want and the boats are parked out back.

Yea - I know - docked out back

Not "off the boat," but Blaylock's Seafood in Orange Beach area is close to your condo and has good stuff.

Joe Patti's in Pensacola is a huge seafood market, with the boat right there. That said, some of their stuff is local, some comes from all over the world.

Any idea what time to be at the docks in Biloxi? What kind of prices do you think I'd be looking at for medium to large off the boat?

I can't tell you time wise or what they are there but I bought two weeks ago in Shell Beach as they were pulling off the boat some probably 15 count, nice big shrimp headless for $2.75 lb

Bought the same last week at Dulac for $3.00. Very nice big shrimp which I prefer. Dulac had heads on but they were a bit bigger and still very much worth it.

I've bought in Biloxi many times and find the prices about the same. Close enough.

We bought some huge, ~10 count, from the docks in Pass Christian recently. Not the docks, the shrimp unloading place just past it. I think $7.5/lb.

That's a good price retail but that's kind of steep on the water.

Yea, that's already been sold once. The boats don't have the selection that those buyers do.

If I can get some great big ones under $4.00/lb, I'd be happy. From what I've been hearing, you'll get lower prices in ms than bama. I just need to be in the right place at the right time.

Just stop at each one along the way. Don't harp on price because they all will be within a buck or so per pound. If they look great at the first stop but them. It's the shrimp that matter. When I buy really large shrimp I want the heads on because I'm BBQ ing them and all of the flavor is from the fat in the head.
