I found there was no great value, and that hoarding them was worthless. I cashed mine in for gift cards to a store I like.

Some people like gas cards because you know you'll use them.

With that amount of points, he could also win any of the Amex experiences, they bid out more of them around Christmas time. It's like backstage passes or things you could never actually buy anywhere else.

Either way, storing them does nothing.

yea, if I spend 36 million on something, I'm really not going to care about how many credit card points I get

though having $180,000 in gift cards is still basically free money

You can use points to make payments as well. Just credit them back to the black card account as a payment and take it as a discount.

I'm sure he got charged a transaction fee for using a credit card. Probably around 2-3% which is almost 1.1MM. He ended up losing on the deal.
