LINK

He sues companies for Medicare fraud and when the companies settle with the government he collects a nice check as a whistleblower.
Made over $38m from this stunt. And every American needs WSJ subscription. It's the new paper of record.

Old paper of record was the New York Times. Times is now no longer that paper.

Knew who it was before even clicking the link. Knew his kid from Country Day. Guy is a huge douchebag and is not very well respected by medical personnel at various local hospitals. I'd say more but he'd probably try to sue me too.

30% seems like a lot to pay out to a whistleblower.

Still though, it seems like it's helping tax payers for him to do this, regardless of how much it benefits him.

For some reason, when you post links, it makes you need a subscription. Just Google the doctor's name and click on the Wall Street Journal article. That worked for me.

Yep, I know him and his daughter as well. It looks like he has moved out of the hospital into a stand-alone practice in Old Metairie right by Winston's.

I know the family very well. Like someone said, didn't have to click on it to know who.

He's had that standalone practice on Metairie Rd for years. It's called the St. John Medical Center or something. He also "visits" patients at various nursing homes and has admitting privledges at several local hospitals.
Its funny to listen to the doctors and nurses who know him and have dealings with him. He is NOT well respected to say the least.

yea, one could argue its a douche move but it's actually helping free up competition and prevent cronyism in the health care market

Back in 2001

quote:

Dr. William LaCorte is an internist in New Orleans, Louisiana.
And he’s been trying to just practice medicine.

But he keeps running into false claims – by hospitals, lab companies and drug companies.

Over the years, he’s filed a number of cases under the False Claims Act.

And has recovered many millions of dollars.

In fact, he’s made more settling False Claims Act cases over the years than he has made in his practice.

His biggest settlement was in 2008 against Merck for $54 million – he pocketed $14 million after lawyer’s fees and taxes.

Merck was selling its anti-acid drug Pepcid to hospitals at low prices in exchange for the hospitals driving out the competition.

“I would order one drug, and a different drug would be given,” LaCorte told Corporate Crime Reporter in an interview last week.

Do you consider yourself a conservative Republican?

“That’s a tough question,” Dr. LaCorte says.

“Fiscally I tend to be conservative. I think I’m a northeastern Republican. Does that help you?”

You mean like a Rockefeller Republican?

“Yes,” he says. “Government should be a referee.”

He ticks off a number of Republicans who have been helpful – former Congressman Bob Livingston, Senator David Vitter (Louisiana) and Senate Charles Grassley (Iowa).

Yeah, I'm sure the local HCPs who are inventing new ways to screw Medicare/Medicaid are all mad at him. I mean, the nerve of this guy busting up their schemes!

Yea, just ask around. His fraud lawsuits have nothing to do with it. Most of those are insurance companies anyway. I personally know the guy. Giant douche. I'd go into more detail but I'm sure this thread will get back to him. If you're ever at EJ just ask about the quality of care from Dr. LaCorte.
