Mr. Murphy Painter was appointed to serve as commissioner of the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco by Governor Foster.
He went astray of Governor Jindal when Jindal's cronies wanted an alcohol permit in Tom Benson's Champion Square development in the Benson Tower Jindal "sold" to Benson.( Jindal then had the state lease offices from him--some at twice the rate the state had been paying to office the employees that moved in.) Well the permit applications were not in order and were denied. Jindal didn't like this and although Painter was clearly right Jindal decided Painter had to get out of the way so he was accused of improperly performing background checks and fired. He was even indicted.
The jury obviously felt the charges were improper and acquitted him. Today the State paid Mr. Painter $300,000 in legal fees and back pay.
John White should pay attention to this tactic Jindal employed against Painter. The man will ruin you to get results he wants.

And the report of the state's payment to Painter here. LINK
Sorry to once again post about the Governor's cruel tactics but the stories just keep coming. I can't help so much is coming up so often.

I haven't been that active here lately, and I don't live in LA anymore, but damn you seem to have a hardon for Jindal.

Everyone should.
What do you think about a governor who uses criminal prosecution of employees to get them out of the way? Did it to Painter and is now trying to do it to John White.

Can't wait for 2015

Not really. Don't live there anymore. Don't vote there. He impacts me as much as the Governor of Idaho impacts you.
You just seem obsessed.

Wasn't Painter that dude who just loved going apeshit on college bars, students, etc? If so, Ya...I don't have much sympathy for bureaucrats who love the machine.
To me, its one government a-hole going after another government a-hole. This is about the most attention I'd ever give it.

This is a Louisiana-centric political forum and Jindal is, by far, the most powerful politician in Louisiana.
Is it really that odd that people would dissent and highly distrust a prominent Louisiana politician? Damn.

I always enjoy your posts. I wish everyone were as interested in holding public servants accountable.

Painter and his gang of wannabe cop thugs deserved to go in any case. Isn't Painter still in some legal trouble for sexual harassment and using law enforcement databases to stalk his girlfriends?

Hopefully someone will make a movie about this.

Hasnt Jindal done really good things for LA's economy?
Attracting new companies, new jobs, etc?

I wonder if IB was as critical of the previous governor. You know, the one who was faced with a crisis on national tv and basically fricked it up in every way possible and only escaped national shame because the democrats found something to blame on the president they didn't like?

Exactly.
Blanco was beyond terrible, yet Bush caught ALL of the heat from Katrina. I remember her on TV during Katrina like it was yesterday. She turned it into a power struggle while people were suffering. Her and mayor Wanka should have been held more accountable than they were.
IB is extremely worked up about this Common Core BS. It's almost like this is personally affecting him in some way. I'm starting to think that it's affecting him financially or something, but that JMO. Jindal may not be perfect, but starting 3 threads on one topic is just a bit nit picky.
Jindal has done a lot of good things for this state. And he is working twoards doing a lot more. Most parents and teachers that I know are highly opposed to Common Core. I'll admit that I don't know everything about CC, but when most educators and parents oppose it, it can't be that great.

In the 10 years i was in the restaurant business, murphy Painter was the biggest A hole i ever had to deal with. His office had booked a private function and he treated my staff like shite, talked to me like i was an idiot and had a hot little assustant that he treated like a slave.......

Simple solution: end the alcohol requirement permit.

Every Murphy Painter story I have ever heard included the comment that he's an a-hole.
Family friend's wife worked at ATC, quit to get away from him because he was hitting on her.
Owner of a bar / restaurant I talked to said that they intentionally stopped serving food because they could see the kind of bullshite he pulled on Chelsea's coming from a mile away.
People who worked for other agencies who dealt with him called him the biggest a-hole they had dealt with on state government.
Lots of people were happy to see him go and pissed to see him get off scot free while LDR got stuck with the fines for him abusing the background check system.
