Looking to purchase my first 1911. Anyone have this particular model? I've read up on all the specs but I'm looking for personal experiences with the 1911 to make a solid purchase

I'm a Colt guy but you won't go wrong with a Springfield. Great gun that will last 3 lifetimes if taken care of.

I love my Range Officer. It has been a fantastic gun and I feel it is quality and will last me a liftime. Ive got about 1500 rounds through it and it is working fine.

TT,
Congrats on your upcoming new gun! Are you referring to Springfield Armory 1911's in general or are you referring to a specific model known as the "General." I'm not an expert on all the different SA models, but I don't see the "General" in their catalog. OTOH, just last night I read in one of the gun mags about the SA Range Officer Compact, but it's also not in the catalog. The RO Compact sounds very promising w/ an alloy frame,a Commander length barrel (4") and an Officer's sized frame (6-7 round mag capacity).

Are parts for American manufacturers interchangeable? Or would you have to get manufacturer-specific parts if you wanted to replace/repair yourself

Normally I CC my stainless Delta Elite. I know that's not the norm.

I'd broaden the answer to say that parts for 1911's, regardless of where they're manufactured, are generally interchangeable, although some hand fitting may be needed. I've not done a lot of work on my own 1911's, but that's the impression I've got from reading the 'net. There are a number of companies that've made a nice living providing aftermarket parts for the 1911.

The only place where this would be different are those 1911s with external extractors, or if you have 80-series firing pin block parts. Those won't fit in a 70-series 1911.

But I agree. TOTH always on the money.
