Anyone driven this recently and can comment on which route is better? Cut across LA on I-49/I-10 or cut across MS on Hwy 49/98?

"East Texas" is pretty big. Where are you leaving from?

Well it depends on how far north you are starting in TX.

I-10 but prepare to be butt fricked by traffic from Lafayette through Baton Rouge. After BR you can hit 12 then pick back up 10 at Slidell

It really depends where you are starting in east texas

I am driving some of this route this afternoon. I suggest you find a way to go to opelousas, then follow 190 all the way down airline dr in Baton Rouge until you hit I-12, avoiding I-10 altogether.

depends on what time you plan to hit the BR area. If anytime in the afternoon, I'd go around it (go through Natchez and down 98)

Lufkin north I would take 20 to avoid the traffic.

I would rather drive and extra hour than sit in traffic for 2

airline is a cluster as well and it takes forever. The bridge is the only place heading west bound through BR that has traffic. it just depends on when you hit it. midday, you are likely fine.

from Lufkin I go out 103 or down to Jasper and hit 190

Jeeeez! Please don't say this! They already think their state is the biggest best BS ever. Next they'll be claiming its worth two states.

From the Tyler area I did 20-49-190-10-12-10-59 and it was pretty smooth sailing besides major traffic on 59 since it was a couple days before the 4th.

i can't believe you would drive that far for brown water when you have brown water already in texas. you should drive an extra hour to destin or 30-A since you are going that far already.

Not worth the risk to me. Pretty sure two truckers are planning on doing meth and then making their weekend plans on facebook as they go over the basin together. It won't end well.

My route gets me on the old bridge, avoiding the MRB. And I get to see the progress of the painting process on the old bridge. That thing is going to look awesome when done.
