...but as I watch the rnolan53 highlights from 2011 I can't help but have a pain in my stomach thinking that that team came up with only an SEC Championship that year. Should've been the National Champions and undisputed greatest team LSU ever fielded...instead it ended the way it did and I still myself why.

Just thought I could vent for a second.
let's win it all in 2014.

Most people will shite on this thread but I am with ya. It bugs me anytime I think about LSU and national champ talk and greatest lsu team ever talk.

Welp most of those guys are getting paid now and we had one helluva fun season watching them play. That's all that really matters. I'm lucky to have been alive to watch a season like that, no matter the outcome. It would've been great to see them with the ship but I guess it just couldn't be that way. Most people agreed that LSU got screwed out of that game and that championship game woke people up about the BCS and why there should be a 4 team playoff.

All of us were disappointed that we did not win a NC in 2011. BUT, you said we "only" won an SEC championship. I think, in 80 seasons in the SEC, LSU has only won maybe 10 SEC championships. Winning an SEC title is a VERY BIG deal and should never be referred to as "only" an SEC title. Just me. I lived through the great SEC title droughts from 1971 to 1986 and from 1988 to 2001. Winning an SEC title is a big deal to me.

LSU got hosed that year plain and simple.

The BCS was never about the two best teams as people will argue. The BCS website said as much as it regarded the bowls as a reward for the regular season played.

LSU already navigated a ridiculous schedule prior to that match up and their reward was an extra game and a rematch.

i dont think the junk they are handing out now under the name of playoff will be much better. But we all keep tuning in and spending money so it likely wont change.

The Mulligan Bowl ruined what was otherwise a fantastic season. It hurts to think about.

Every great program has one or two "never get over" games. Hell Bama has two Iron Bowls over the past few seasons that qualify.

The take away is only great programs have those type of games. You don't hear Washington State saying "I'll never get over that loss."

Re-matches like that rarely work out for the winner of the first game, especially in college football.

Even though the game was played in our back yard, the revenge factor was simply too much to overcome.

I'm convinced though a third game, yes I know that would/could never happen, would have been a completely different game, closer to the first matchup that year.

Horrible way to end such a spectacular year.

I've mentioned many of times on the SECR that 2012 hurt like a bitch, and pretty much everyone understands. I'll put it fully to rest when we win another title. It was really fun kicking everyone's arse and getting to 13-0

Jordan Jefferson was over the loss the next day, and I consider that a rare instance where he set a very good example for the rest of us. I followed it. It was very easy.

I actually attended the game.

So I'll probably never get over it.

I get pissed off when I think about that Iowa State Oklahoma State game. No way in hell OSU should have choked that game away. LSU romps against them in the title game. And at the time, LSU still had at least two tough games, so I was kind of happy when Iowa State won. It's my fault.

I don't know the exact record, but when the SECCG is a rematch, the team who previously won wins the SECCG most of the time.

I get what you're saying and love this attitude but I guarantee if you to the wazzu message board there are still folks who are extremely irate about the 1998 Rose Bowl

(One-loss Wazzu lost when QB legend Ryan Leaf - and the dude is a legit legend out there - takes them on a last second 70 yard drive, lines up for a play deep in Michigan territory and inexplicably spikes it with 1 sec left, during which the clock runs out, and Michigan won a co-MNC. Think Ole Miss 2009. If I were a WSU fan I'd still be pissed too)

ETA: I love youtube. LINK

You may be right, I don't know without looking it up.

But I was referring to recent rematches in the national title game. Like the UF-FSU rematch a few years back.
