We need to gain momentum for pushing opening weekend of duck season in the coastal zone to the third Saturday of November.

1. It is as early as it can possibly be so pushing it back will give them more time to migrate south

2. It's the same weekend as the Bama game

thoughts?

I agree also. I have no idea why they bumped it up this year.

seems to me, they would have moved the opening weekend back (later part of November) a long time ago. Weather alone should dictate that.

I talked with a fellow Delta committee member of 15 years and he suggested if we wanted teal season to be moved back, we need to have a well written letter with the desired dates and evidence to support the change. Then have every mfer that hunts in southwest la to sign it. Then hand it over to the guy who's in charge of setting the dates. He told me the guys name but I forgot. I can get his info though.

He doesn't set dates, but he's our voice in front of the folks that do.

While I agree with pushing the dates back, there are more reasons for you seeing more ducks after the season ends than ducks coming down late.

in case you can't read the mother tongue...

The season dates for teal are as late as the frame work allows. Many wanted the coastal zone SO THE SEASON COULD open earlier... Late in winter many shallow marsh spots have no water and less feed

I like it just the way it is, plenty of birds here for opening weekend, then when tides get low in the second split and you struggle for water you can go hunt east zone or AR or MS.

I like the current set up a LOT. Of course where I hunt almost always has birds by opening weekend.

Why does teal season need to be moved back?

It doesnt'. These sugarasses come out of woodwork every year around this time. Let me go ahead and file the list of complaint for this season:
1. Season open to early in coastal zone, no ducks
2. By end of late coastal zone, marsh hunters bitch about no water
3. Coastal zone hunter complain saying that they should have opened season early, thats when all the ducks were here

Happens every year. duck hunters are comical and they bring the funny train around the track every year

It's fine where it is for where I hunt. The hunting gets a little worse every year each ensuing weekend following the opener, so moving it back probably won't affect hunting.

Fishing is better earlier in the year, so the opener the way it is now likely would give another weekend of good fishing after hunting.

We will be tailgating in the duck blind for the Alabama game, can't see how to beat that.

It wouldn't have done you any good. The teal season can NOT run past Sept. 30, and Louisiana has always set the season back 9 or 16 days (whatever is allowed) from the last Sunday in September.

And we won't set it to always run to Sept. 30th because we would lose a weekend, which is when the vast majority of our hunters hunt.

Don't waste your time trying to get teal season set later unless you go after the federal USFWS.

He's the guy that makes the recommendations, but the Commission has the bona-fide authority to set season dates.
