Notice the line hole. When you go to cast the top of the reel pops up and as the line is coming off the reel back and forth the line is not forced through a small hole like on conventional baitcasters. Got to cast one at Bowie last week. I am impressed. The small notch at the bottom of the line guide allows the line to be level winded when reeling back in.
Ingenious design.
The're calling it the "T-WING"

It should cast further. I wonder how the backlash is?

last year the craze was everyone was switching to micro guides for better casting distance.

Now we have the reel with macro line guide. Lol

God damn. Most of my casts are not full length casts, so I'm not going to get enough out of a reel like that to justify the price. I could see having one if you're trying to cover a large, open area but it's going to be mostly for tourney bass fishermen with that price tag, not your average weekend warrior. I don't know why someone would pay $429 for a baitcaster. I would imagine they'll sell enough of the "ballistic" ones to make it worth their while though. Not to me though, lol. I top out at $120 about.

Shimano and Abu make reels way more expensive than that. Go around any popular freshwater lake and al the bass fishermen just have to one up each other with the most expensive gear available.
There's a market for the expensive ones.

i honestly did not know that. i figured bass reels topped out around $300. i don't really shop for high end reels though.

still can't imagine spending $400 for a baitcaster. if i had that much money to spend on a reel i'd get some more expensive hobbies than fishing.

I completely agree with you... Kinda like the average ice chest user buying a Yeti. Just because it can keep ice for 7 days.... I don't need it for an afternoon trip to the lake.

I've got magnetic brakes on one of my reels. You will still backlash, though it does help in the wind.

No way this thing doesn't backlash.
