The biggest stipulation is that I dont have multiple days to just let it air out. The ice chest isnt mine so thats why I dont have multiple days to let it air out.
Ive seen cleaning with a mixture of bleach and soapy water, cleaning with bleach and baking soda, cleaning with oxiclean, and also cleaning then lining it with newspaper but that suggestion takes multiple days. I rinsed and cleaned it out real well this morning and its aired out all day. Im guessing the bleach with baking soda is probably the best bet?

Clean it really good with dish soap and pour a 2 Pitre of regular coke, let it sit for about 1/2 hour and then pour bleach and water, for about 15 minutes, then rinse well, good as new, trust me, some old timer out of yclosky told me that trick, it works wonders

Fill with water and put 1/2 gal of bleach. Let sit overnight if you have time. Wash it out and it will smell like brand new. I've done this hundreds of times.

Do I scrub it with the bleach or does the bleach just absorb the smell? I can let it sit overnight. Just have to bring it back tomorrow.

I cleaned it with Clorox all purpose cleaner earlier.

Clean it out then put a 1/2 cup of bleach & a 1/2 cup of white vinegar in a jar, place in ice chest & close, smell will be gone by the next morning

No scrubbing at all. Let the bleach do the work

As others have said, start with bleach. Next, put a pound of coffee grounds in the cooler for about 24 hours.

I was ready to give up on my refrigerator after Katrina, but the coffee grounds did the trick.

I've had luck cleaning it with soap and water then cutting two lemons in half and letting them sit in the ice chest for a day or two. Work every time.

Please don't mix bleach and vinegar.

If bleach can't clean it, it can't be cleaned.

How long did you have shrimp sitting in there that the smell is that pungent?

There werent any shrimp left in there actually. It was just the little bit of juice and melted ice that sat in there since Thursday evening. It was about an inch of water in there still if that, but I also had a sealed ziplock bag with 4 softshell crabs I forgot about. The smell wasnt so bad when I initially cleaned it this morning but as mentioned before, its not my ice chest so I didnt want to return it to my coworker with even the hint of a foul smell.
