Just watched the highlights and they were VERY impressive.

Young is a man among boys and rebounded much better than what we were led to believe. Was it FLAs system?(a gator fan could correct me.) Offensive game needs a bit of work but not awful. Defense and screen setting were great.

Smith was bad in the first half but he made adjustments at half was a different player. His passing is suprisingly crafty and the guy can make a play from anywhere.

Defense was very sound as expected. Needs to correct the handles but that's coaching/adjustment.

Another thing:

Dell went into the draft with nothing and came out with Smith and Young(I know he's an UDFA but should've been drafted.)

It's summer league and expectations should be tempered but they're exciting.

Patric Young will end being very valuable to the Pels. I see a young Ben Wallace in Young. He can take all the time he needs to develop his offense game, we need him to rebound, block shots, and hustle.

You need to put Russ Smith as your avi.

He went into the draft with the intention of trading Pierre for a pick. Getting Young without a pick is luck as much as anything. I'm as big of a defender of Dell as anyone, and he obviously made enough of an impression on Young that he chose us, but let's not make this bigger than it is. Demps did what Demps is very good at, getting end of roster guys for minimal acquisition costs.

Pretty much yeah

It's looking like a smart move on his part to deal pierre for smith(who a few though was too similar to pierre and questioned the move.). Russ looks like a really complete package.

The reason we got Pat Young was because we gave him guaranteed money. Nobody else did (or maybe our money was the most).

Proud of Dell for getting him. I think he will contribute as a solid rotation big.

Great adds for a team who is close to winning

These guys are rookies, but both logged 4 years of college at winning programs under two of the best coaches in the NCAA

They will fill contributing roles as early as this year

If Patric Young can become Ben Wallace, we'd be set for a good few years. Jeez that would be nice now wouldn't it.

I said all along that i love the Smith pick. Hes an upgrade over PJAX and a legit defender. A lot of people didnt like him because he dominated possession in college. And its true he did. But he also did that because that was the system he was in. In a few workouts and showcases, he showed scouts he is more than willing and capable of being a pass 1st PG and is pretty darn good.

And Patric Young... hes just a beast. No matter where he goes, he will be a fan favorite. ANd he has that skillset and edge and most teams wants in a bench player. Works his arse off, plays for the team and not for himself, and will run through a brick wall if the team needed him to do that. And hes a great guy as well, very high character. I think he was the Scholar Athlete of the Year for NCAAB this past year.... I know he got that honor twice in the SEC.

Im happy.

PT: "Lottery picks are crap shoots." Then turn around and say "Undrafted rookie can be Ben Wallace."

Love the enthusiasm for them and Smith/Young are nice fliers. Young is intriguing w/ his strength and speed. He has the tools to be a solid big defender in the lane and in space, but that takes a lot of time and practice to master. Anthony Davis still gets lost on defense and he is a basketball savant.

If either guy is cracking the 8 man rotation, things are bad this season. Their age may help them be more professional or whatever, but the NCAA is a completely different game than the NBA. Every college guy needs time to adjust, IMO the older you are the harder the CBB habits are to break.

Probably so. But it's not necessarily a bad thing if they make the roster and can contribute a few minutes during the season while learning. Don't be so negative . . .

Have you heard they need a SF? No one ever talks about that here. If Demps ever decides to do anything I would hope he looks at that.

I thought this was interesting, they always talk about the pro game being different and taking a while to adjust to, but you rarely get any details about the differences.

quote:

Smith said he's still adjusting to the NBA's 3-point distance, which is 23 feet, 9 inches as opposed to the 20-9 distance in college basketball.

''The spacing kind of threw me off on just how many dribbles it took to attack the basket or how to get into my package coming off the ball screen, so I was kind of confused,'' Smith said.

''Normally, when I come off the screen in college, I’m at the rim at a bounce or two, now it’s maybe three bounces and I actually see the defense sinking in. All those guys are 6-8 and above, so it's was really different.''

I really liked what I heard from Russ in that post game interview. Sounds like he gets it. That's not the kind of thing you would hear an average player say, much less a guy playin in his first professional level game. I like this kid.

Same here, just the fact that he asked the coach if he was allowed to do the interview was pretty funny.
