I've been a lurker on this board for a while but I'm finally posting to the FDB.

I've been on a rum kick lately. I'm usually a whiskey/bourbon drinker, but I'm trying to be a little more festive for the summer, haha. I've had rum in cocktails but never really though much about it by itself until now. Been trying a few different kinds and types (white, dark, black). Just curious about what you like, how you guys drink it, or what you mix it with? I even tried it on the rocks and its pretty good. Any specific brands ya'll like?

I've always liked Appleton since we've been to Jamaica a few times, but recently a friend turned me on to Ron Zaccappa (sp?) I can def tell its a better quality. I realize it's still not best, I'm sure, but I'm still getting my feet wet on rum.

For local, I really like Bayou Rum. It's my tailgate liquor

The best were some of the ones I bought in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, but I can't remember their names. Wasn't Appleton. One was Tortuga rum from Caymans

They make a rum called Bayou out around Lacassine. You can get it all around Lake Chuck and I've seen it in New Orleans. Not sure about everywhere else. But that stuff is GOOD.

I've had a bottle of the Bayou Rum Spiced and I really liked it. I've also currently got a bottle of Rougaroux Dark, which is an older company than Bayou and is made in Thibodeaux. I really really like it.

I'm always trying to support the local craft guys first. I like locally-tied in products.

When I was in Germany last summer, we had Havana Club Aged Rum all over the place. They don't sell it in the US but it was spectacular.

How do you drink it? Mixed with coke/sprite? I usually mix it with sprite or 7, and its pretty good, but like I said, I'm new to the rum show so I'm not exactly sure how its done, haha.

My every weekend/usual rum is Sailor Jerry's. It's smooth and you can't beat it for $25 a handle. Way better than Captain. I usually mix it with coke zero.

My favorite rum is definitely Rougaroux Dark, I've tried it with nearly everything and I like it with ginger ale the most. I think it's the best Louisiana rum, wish I could get a handle of it.

Somebody from Thibodeaux told me about it a few months back. I looked all over for it. She told me it was hard to find outside of Thib, but I ended up finding a bottle in Whole Foods BR. You're right, though. I like it alot.

I drink it mixed with coke. It's so smooth and it taste just like a vanilla coke. It's loaded me up for more than my handful of Tiger and Saints games

Rouses and Marcello's carry it in Lafayette. It's a pretty good value for $20. I want to try Sweet Crude Rum made out of Lafayette but I can never pass on that Rougaroux.

Cuban liquor off Perkins has Rougaroux in both light and dark for around $33, how much is it at Whole Foods in BR?

I'm a big fan of Bayou Rum. Would drink it with coke or straight. (For a while I was sneaking a flask in to movies, concerts, festivals) I also like Kraken. It's a dark rum. Like that with ginger beer for dark and stormys.
A former co worker gave me a handle of Appleton she got from a relative who went on a cruise. I drank that with fruit punch at a barbecue a couple of summers ago and got obliterated. Like falling out the bed drunk.

I haven't had the Bayou spiced yet but the silver is ridiculously sweet.

For sipping rum go Zacapa XO.

Apparently I need to try Rougaroux and Bayou, but Old New Orleans has a few different rums that are very good. I like their spiced rum and their Gingeroo drink they have out for about $10/bottle. It's got a lot of ginger in it and is amazingly refreshing on a hot day.
